The peninsula is bordered by the Weir River Massachusetts Weir River to the North and East and Hingham Harbor part of Hingham Bay , and Boston Harbor to the West. The land is composed of four drumlin s Pine Hill, Planter s Hill, and the double drumlins of World s End proper harboring tree groves interspersed with fields attractive to butterflies and grassland nesting birds, and offers walking paths and views of the Boston, Massachusetts Boston skyline. The adjacent neighborhood, an upper middle class residential subdivision with several waterfront homes, is also colloquially called World s End . History In the mid to late 19th century, the peninsula was purchased and turned into an extensive estate by John Brewer, who raised livestock there. In 1889, noted landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted was commissioned by Brewer to design a residential subdivision there. The design was made and the roads and trees set in place, but the homes were never built. The site was mooted in 1945 as a possible location for the nascent United Nations and New York City was chosen instead. In the mid 1960s, a proposal was made to build a nuclear power plant on World s End, but this did not happen. In 1967, the northern two thirds of the World s End peninsula was acquired by the Trustees of Reservations and made a public park. In 1996, it was made part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area , but the Trustees of Reservations continue to manage the site. Helen Scott, 17, and Christine Eadie, 17, were seen socialising with two men. Neither of those men have since presented themselves to police or been traced, leading to speculation that at least one of them committed the murders. The bodies of Scott and Eadie were found the next day six miles apart in East Lothian . The World s End is a district of Chelsea, London , lying at the western end of the Kings Road . It took its name from a public house . World s End and surrounding areas were often bombed during the The Blitz Blitz . The fashionable set who had made their home at the other end of the Kings Road discovered the gem that was the Worlds End and found it was the perfect place to open the boutique Granny Takes a Trip . There were several boutiques and hippie shops that clustered round World s End in the late 60 s including Gandalf s Garden selling candles, incense , spirtuality spiritual books and hippy paraphernalia. Sophisticat sold reconditioned pine furniture and was home to Christian the lion cub The Sweet Shop at 28 Blantyre Street sold silk velvet patchwork and applique cushions, tunics, and wallhanging designed by artist Laura Jamieson. The shop was frequented by Twiggy , Jean Shrimpton , and Keith Richards . Just round the corner on the Kings Road was the Dragon Tea Garden, a meeting place for local aristocrats, bohemian s and hippies who sat on floor cushions, played backgammon and sipped exotic teas.
