Unreferenced date March 2008 The Endellion String Quartet is a Great Britain British string quartet named after St Endellion in Cornwall. The quartet was formed in 1979 and has been Quartet in Residence at Cambridge University since 1992. It has an extensive discography and appears in concert halls around the world. In 1997 the quartet received the award for Best Chamber Ensemble from the Royal Philharmonic Society . They have released their recording of the cycle of Beethoven s quartets, string quintets and quartet fragments for Warner Classics and Jazz sup 1 sup . Members The quartet s original members were Andrew Watkinson , violin Louise Williams , violin Garfield Jackson , viola David Waterman , cello Ralph de Souza replaced Louise Williams as second violin after some years. orphan date September 2008 primarysources date September 2008 The Galatea Quartet from Zurich is a young string quartet that has existed in its current configuration since its inception in early 2005. The ensemble has already won prizes at the Geneva International Music Competition , at the International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka or at the Migros Chamber Music Competition in Switzerland. Since 2006 the quartet has been participating in the sessions of the http www.ecma music.com ECMA European Chamber Music Academy with professors such as Hatto Beyerle, Johannes Meissl, Christoph Richter etc. In Zurich, the quartet took lessons with Stephan Goerner of the Carmina Quartet. They also studied with the Artemis Quartet in Berlin. The quartet since performs numerous concerts in Europe and abroad Japan, India, Egypt, Albania etc . The quartet is also performing world premieres of contemporary music and works with artists such as Jon Lord , founder of Deep Purple, or local bands. Their Debut CD with Sony Classics was published in 2011 and is dedicated to the string quartet works by swiss american composer Ernest Bloch.
