The carousel was purchased about 1929. The carousel is housed in a wooden, one story, 16 sided, enclosed pavilion. The carousel has 36 figures 34 horses, one pig and one dog, each of which is a jumper, and two chariots. It was constructed by the Allan Herschell Company . It is one of six carousels donated to the citizens of Broome County by George F. His father was a farm worker. Endicott left England for Canada at the age of seventeen and worked with his brother as a house painter in southwestern Ontario . He met Sarah Diamond who introduced him to the Methodist church. Sarah and James married and Endicott became a probationary minister for the church and was sent to Lethbridge in western Canada. He impressed the local minister who sponsored his application to study at the University of Manitoba University of Manitoba s Wesley College, Winnipeg Wesley College . His colleagues at the Methodist college raised money upon his graduation to send him the new Methodist mission in Szechuan , China in 1893, the same year as his ordination . The Endicotts and their five children returned to Canada in 1910 due to the poor health of their youngest daughter and settled in Toronto where James Endicott became general secretary of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Church of Canada in 1913. In 1924 and 1925, Endicott was a leading figure in efforts to merge the Methodist, Congregational church Congregationalist and Presbyterian churches leading to the creation of the United Church of Canada in 1925. Barton, History s Daughter The Life of Clara Endicott Sears Founder of Fruitlands Museums CLB Publications, 1988 ISBN 9780941632027 ref In 1910 Sears purchased a summer estate in Harvard, Massachusetts , which included the buildings that were part of a failed Transcendentalist community known as the Fruitlands transcendental center Fruitlands . After restoring the property, Sears opened the buildings as the Fruitlands Museum in 1914. When the nearby Shaker community in Harvard closed in 1917, Sears bought 1794 office building from the Harvard Shaker Village and moved it to her property. Sears also worked with Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University in acquiring a Native American collection to display at the museum.
