This technique is most often employed for people who suffer from excessive or prolonged bleeding during their menstrual cycle but cannot or do not wish to undergo a hysterectomy . The procedure is most commonly done on an outpatient basis. Placenta accreta may occur if the patient becomes pregnant after endometrial ablation, so birth control is recommended. 1. Ablation zone

Ablation zone refers to the low altitude area of a glacier or ice sheet where there is a net loss in ice mass due to melting, Sublimation chemistry sublimation , evaporation, or Ice calving calving . The ablation zone is delineated by the equilibrium line altitude ELA , or snow line , which separates the ablation zone and the high altitude accumulation zone . The ablation zone often contains meltwater features such as supraglacial , englacial , and subglacial streams. The seasonally melting glacier deposits much sediment at its fringes in the ablation area. Ablation constitutes a key part of the glacier mass balance . Glacier mass balance is determined by the amount of snow and ice gained in the winter in the accumulation zone, and by the amount of ice melted or calved in the ablation zone. Often mass balance measurements are made in the ablation zone using snow stakes. 1. Autologous endometrial coculture

Refimprove date January 2008 Autologous Endometrial Coculture is a technique of assisted reproductive technology . It involves placing a patient s fertilized eggs on top of a layer of cells from her own uterine lining, creating a more natural environment for embryo development and maximizing the chance for an in vitro fertilization IVF pregnancy. How Coculture is performed A typical Coculture cycle consists of the following steps br 1. Once a patient has been deemed an appropriate candidate for the procedure, she undergoes an endometrial biopsy during which a small piece of her uterine lining is removed. br 2. The uterine lining sample is sent to a research lab, where it is treated, purified and frozen. br 3. The patient then undergoes a typical IVF cycle and is given medication to stimulate egg growth in her ovaries . br 4. The patient s eggs are retrieved and mixed with the spermatozoon sperm . At this time, the lab begins thawing and growing her endometrial cells. br 5. Once fertilization is confirmed, the patient s embryo s are placed on top of her own and now thawed endometrial cells. br 6. Over the next two days, the embryos are closely monitored for growth and development. br 7. The patient s embryos are transferred into her uterus for implantation and pregnancy . The potential candidate Coculture can be an effective treatment for patients who have failed previous IVF cycles or who have poor embryo quality. Advantages A study of 12,377 embryo cultures showed that endometrial coculture is Statistical significance significantly better than sequential culture media the rates fraction reaching blastocyst stage were 56 versus 46 in the coculture versus the sequential system, respectively, with own oocytes. LASiS is usually considered a top down physical approach In the past years, laser ablation synthesis in solution LASiS emerged as a reliable alternative to traditional chemical reduction methods for obtaining noble metal nanoparticle s NMNp . LASiS is a green technique for the synthesis of stable NMNp in water or in organic solvents, which does not need stabilizing molecule s or other chemical s. The so obtained NMNp are highly available for further functionalization or can be used wherever unprotected metal nanoparticles are desired. Surface functionalization of NMNp can be monitored in real time by UV visible spectroscopy of the plasmon resonance . However LASiS has some limitations in the size control of NMNp, which can be overcome by chemical free laser treatments of NMNp. 1. Laser ablation of thyroid nodules

Laser ablation of thyroid nodules is a minimally invasive procedure indicated to treat thyroid nodule benign thyroid lesions such as cold nodules or single nodules within a multinodular goiter . The technique consists in the destruction of the tissue by the insertion therein of optical fibers which convey the light energy, causing a complete and not reversible lesions necrosis. The therapeutic outcome is the reduction in volume of the nodule, and as a result of local symptoms, such as compression, and reduction or loss of visibility of nodular goiter . The goal of therapy is to destroy the lesion without removing the organ, thus preserving its normal anatomy. Once documented the benign nature of the nodule, the selection criteria for treatment with the laser concern injuries sufficiently massive to create cosmetic damages or local compressive symptoms and those patients who have contraindications at surgery or anesthesia or will not, for aesthetic reasons, to undergo surgery.
