Energy Autonomy The Economic, Social & Technological Case for Renewable Energy is a 2007 book written by Hermann Scheer . For 200 years industrial civilization has relied on the combustion of abundant and cheap fossil fuels . But continued reliance has had some adverse social and environmental consequences. The solution, explains Scheer, is to make the transition to renewable energy and distributed, decentralized energy generation. Scheer argues that this is a model that has been proven, technologically, commercially and politically. Much progress with renewable energy commercialization has already been made in Europe where the renewable energy industry is a multi billion Euro industry with high growth rates. ref http www.renewableenergyaccess.com rea news printstory jsessionid 8B1A3627348AC4A6BC0D94214B1776D6?id 47503 The Economic, Social & Technological Case for Renewable Energy ref Dr Hermann Scheer was a member of the German Bundestag Parliament , President of EUROSTAR the European Association for Renewable Energy and General Chairman of the World Council for Renewable Energy . ref http www.dea.org.au node 144 Book Review Energy Autonomy. Politics of the Netherlands The Sociaal Economische Raad Social and Economic Council SER is a major economic advisory council of the Dutch government. Formally it heads a Publiekrechtelijke Bedrijfsorganisatie system of sector based regulatory organizations . It represents the social partners trade union s and employers organization s. It forms the core organization of the corporatism corporatist and social market economy social market economy of the Netherlands economy known as the polder model and the main platform for social dialogue . History The SER was founded in 1950. It was founded after a long debate about the economic order of the Netherlands. The two main governing parties of the time, the Catholic Katholieke Volkspartij KVP and the social democratic Dutch Labour Party PvdA had differing opinions on the subject. Both wanted to prevent the repetition of the Great Depression economic crisis of the 1930s . The social democrats preferred to grant the government an important regulatory role in the economy, while the Catholics preferred to rely on the workings of a self regulating market economy. A compromise was found in the corporatist model, in which both Trade unions in the Netherlands trade unions and employers organizations would form sector based regulatory organizations.
