  1. Configuration factor

In dentistry, the configuration factor also known as c factor refers to the number of bonded to unbonded surfaces in a tooth preparation. For instance, in an Occlusion dentistry occlusal class I preparation there would be 5 bonded surfaces and only 1 unbonded surface. The net result would be a C factor of 5. As the C factor increases so too does the possibility of bond disruption when using a composite resin. This effect is caused by a reduction in unbonded surfaces in which the composite can flow to relieve polymerization stress. The technique of incremental layering has been suggested to compensate for preparations with high configuration factors. 1. Configuration entropy

In statistical mechanics , configuration entropy is the portion of a system s entropy that is related to the position of its constituent particles rather than to their velocity or momentum . It is physically related to the number of ways of arranging all the particle s of the system while maintaining some overall set of specified system properties, such as energy . The configurational entropy is also known as microscopic entropy or conformational entropy in the study of macromolecules . In general, configurational entropy is the foundation of statistical thermodynamics. ref http www.entropysite.com calpoly talk.html ref It can be shown ref name Young cite book last Young first Hugh coauthors Roger Freedman year 2008 title University Physics edition 12th Ed. publisher Pearson Education ref that the variation of configuration entropy of thermodynamic systems e.g., ideal gas, and other systems with a vast number of internal degrees of freedom in thermodynamic process es is equivalent to the variation of the macroscopic entropy defined as dS Q T , where Q is the heat exchanged between the system and the surrounding media, and T is temperature. Therefore configuration entropy is the same as macroscopic entropy. Calculation The configurational entropy is related to the number of possible configurations by Boltzmann s entropy formula math S k B , ln W, math where k sub B sub is the Boltzmann constant and W is the number of possible configurations. In a more general formulation, if a system can be in states n with probabilities P sub n sub , the configurational entropy of the system is given by math S k B , sum n 1 W P n ln P n, math which in the perfect disorder limit all P sub n sub 1 W leads to Boltzmann s formula, while in the opposite limit one configuration with probability 1 , the entropy vanishes. This formulation is analogous to that of Entropy information theory Shannon s information entropy . The mathematical field of combinatorics , and in particular the mathematics ...   more details

  1. Physical configuration audit

A Physical Configuration Audit PCA is the formal examination of the as built configuration of a configuration item against its technical documentation to establish or verify the configuration item s product baseline. The PCA is used to examine the actual configuration of the Configuration Item CI that is representative of the product configuration in order to verify that the related design documentation matches the design of the deliverable CI. It is also used to validate many of the supporting processes that the contractor uses in the production of the CI. The PCA is also used to verify that any elements of the CI that were redesigned after the completion of the Functional Configuration Audit FCA also meet the requirements of the CI s performance specification. Additional PCAs may be accomplished later during CI production if circumstances such as the following apply The original production line is shut down for several years and then production is restarted The production contract for manufacture of a CI with a fairly complex, or difficult to manufacture, design is awarded to a new contractor or vendor. ESCD or Extended System Configuration Data is a part of nonvolatile BIOS memory usually in flash memory Citation needed date March 2012 on the motherboard of a personal computer , where information about Industry Standard Architecture ISA Legacy Plug and Play PnP devices is stored. It s used by the BIOS to allocate resources for Computer hardware device s like expansion card s. The BIOS also updates the ESCD each time the Computer hardware hardware configuration changes, after deciding how to re allocate resources like Interrupt request IRQ and memory map ping ranges. After the ESCD has been updated, the decision need not be made again, which thereafter results in faster startup without conflicts until the next hardware configuration change. 1. Configuration Management (ITSM)

Configuration Management CM is an Information Technology Infrastructure Library ITIL version 2 and an IT Service Management ITSM process that tracks all of the individual Configuration Items CI in an information system IT system which may be as simple as a single server computing server , or as complex as the entire IT department. In large organizations a configuration manager may be appointed to oversee and manage the CM process. In ITIL version 3, this process has been renamed as Service Asset and Configuration Management . Configuration item main Configuration item A Configuration item CI is an IT asset or a combination of IT assets that may depend and have relationships with other IT processes. A CI will have attributes which may be hierarchical and relationships that will be assigned by the configuration manager in the CM database. CI attributes Technical Data that describes the CI s capabilities which include software version and model numbers, hardware and manufacturer specifications and other technical details like networking speeds and data storage size. Keyboards, mice and cables are considered consumables. Ownership Part of financial asset management, ownership attributes record purchase date, warranty, location and responsible person for the CI. Identification numbers like bar codes and type, like software, hardware and documentation are also ownership attributes. Relationship The relationships between hardware items e.g. a printer , software e.g. drivers , and users i.e. Alice . Configuration Management Database main Configuration management database The fundamental component of CM is the CM database CMDB which contains the CI information and is used to understand the CI relationships and track their configuration and more Activities The information in the CMDB ... changes are made to the live environment. The cylinder engine cylinders and piston s are aligned, in two separate planes or banks , so that they appear to be in a V when viewed along the axis of the crankshaft . The Vee configuration generally reduces the overall engine length, height and weight compared to an equivalent straight engine inline configuration. In 1896, Karl Benz patent ed his design for the first internal combustion engine with horizontally ... engine, and for example divide flat engine s into boxer engine s which do not share crank pins in this way, and 180 engines which do. On the other hand, some important V twin engine designs have two ... of the Vee engine and the straight engine primarily in the form of compactness as well as disadvantages ... . Some Vee configurations are well engine balance balanced and smooth, while others are less smoothly ... angle, Clarify date July 2009 V16 engine V16s have even firing order and exceptional balance. The V10 engine V10 and crossplane V8 engine can be balanced with counterweights on the crankshaft. V12 engine V12s , being in effect two straight 6 engines married together, always have even firing and exceptional balance regardless of angle. 1. Multireference configuration interaction

Unreferenced date December 2009 In quantum chemistry , the multireference configuration interaction method consists in a configuration interaction expansion of the eigenstate s of the electronic molecular Hamiltonian in a set of Slater determinant s which correspond to excitations of the ground state electronic configuration but also of some excited state s. The Slater determinants from which the excitations are performed are called reference determinants . The higher excited derterminants also called configuration state function s CSFs or shortly configurations are then chosen either by the program according to some perturbation theory perturbation theoretical ansatz according to a threshold provided by the user or simply by truncating excitations from these references to singly, doubly, ... excitations resulting in MRCIS, MRCISD, etc. For the ground state using more than one reference configuration means a better electronic correlation correlation and so a lower energy. The problem of size consistency size inconsistency of truncated CI methods is not solved by taking more references. As a result of a MRCI calculation one gets a more balanced electronic correlation correlation of the ground and excited state s. For quantitative good energy differences excitation energies one has to be careful in selecting the references. Taking only the dominant configuration of an excited state into the reference space leads to a correlated lower energy of the excited state. The generally too ... dominant configuration and so the ground state is more correlated due to a now including some configurations ... and Double Configuration Interaction MRDCI .
