His father died while he was quite young and his grandfather, Robert Englefield, had him educated in law at the Middle Temple. He held land on the Welsh border, notably in Worcestershire where he became a magistrate JP in 1493. Life He was the eldest son of Sir Henry Englefield, sixth baronet, by his second wife, Catherine, daughter of Sir Charles Bucke, Bart. His father, who was the son of Henry Englefield, of Whiteknights Park at Earley near Reading, Berkshire , had in 1728 succeeded to the title and the Engelfield estates at Wooton Basset , Wiltshire so that Henry Charles inherited both Whiteknights and Wooton Basset on the death of his father, 25 May 1780. He never married, and devoted his entire life to study. In 1778 at the early age of 26 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society , and in the following year Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries .     Frederick Ronald Hastings Englefield 1891&ndash 1975 was an English poet and philosopher. His major work, Language and Thought , remains unpublished, though excerpts have appeared in various books and journals. He was critical of the use of words in situations where the words have no clear referent, especially in religion and philosophy, but also in literary criticism. His theory that language evolved naturally from gestures has not met with wide acceptance, but his criticism of religion and philosophy, published posthumously, was well received and is still in print. Biography The child of a London solicitor, Englefield attended Mill Hill School in North London. He was a scholarship student at St. John s College, Cambridge, where he studied modern languages. In World War I , he served in France and in Salonika, and was mentioned by Winston Churchill for gallant and distinguished services in the field . After the war, he supported himself by teaching French and German in public schools, and wrote poetry and philosophy.     unreferenced date March 2009 James Herbert Benyon alias James Herbert Fellowes Master of Arts postgraduate MA 1849&ndash 1935 was an early 20th century Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire . Born James Herbert Fellowes, he was the son of James Fellowes of Kingston Maurward House near Dorchester, Dorset Dorchester , Dorset who was the youngest son of William Henry Fellowes of Ramsey Abbey in Huntingdonshire by his wife, Emma the daughter of Richard Benyon of Gidea Hall in Essex . In 1897, he took the name of Benyon upon inheriting Richard Fellowes Benyon his uncle s estate at Englefield in Berkshire . He trained as a barrister and became High Sheriff of Dorset in 1892 and Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire in 1901, a post he held until his death. He was also first chairman of the Berkshire Education Committee 1902 onwards , chairman of Berkshire County Council 1916 1926 and the first Chancellor of the University of Reading after it gained its charter in 1926.     Sir Edward Norreys or Norris died 1603 was a 16th century Governor of Ostend and English people English Member of Parliament . Norreys was the third son of Henry Norris, 1st Baron Norreys and his wife, Lady Margery Williams, then of Wytham in Berkshire now Oxfordshire . He was elected as Member of Parliament for Abingdon UK Parliament constituency Abingdon in the Parliaments of 1584 1585 and 1588 1589. Like his more famous brother, Sir John Norreys , Edward became a distinguished soldier, fighting in the Netherlands . He was knighted by the Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester Earl of Leicester in 1586 and was appointed Governor of Ostend in 1590.
