Infobox political party country Greece party name EnglishParty native name Lang el logo foundation ideology Economic Liberalism , br Anglophilia Pro England , br Monarchy Monarchism position colorcode colours The EnglishParty lang el , was one of the three informal Early Greek Parties that dominated the early political history of Modern Greece, Date? the other two being the Russian Party Greece Russian Party and the French Party Greece French Party . History and party development The creation and evolution of these Parties was the effect of the interest that the three Great Powers the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland United Kingdom , July Monarchy France and Russian Empire Russia displayed for Greek affairs. As a result, they counted on the hope that Greeks had, that by supporting them those countries would also help the Kingdom of Greece Greek Kingdom to fulfill its expectations for economic progress and territorial expansion. The establishment of the EnglishParty should probably be considered the action that some leaders of the Greek War of Independence took in June 1825, urged by Prince Alexander Mavrocordatos and Georgios Kountouriotis , to compose a letter, whereby Greece applied for protection to the United Kingdom . The party lacked support in mainland Greece but was very powerful among the Phanariotes and the wealthy shipowners of the Aegean Islands . During John Capodistria s period it lost much of its influence due to the establishment of the other parties, but regained most of it after the arrival of King Otto of Greece Otto , since the political sympathies of the principal Regent, Josef Ludwig von Armansperg , lay with Britain. Its unquestioned leader was Prince Alexander Mavrocordatos , and the party quickly started to decline in influence after his death in 1855. The NationalEnglish Literary Museum NELM houses extensive archival material relating to Southern African English Literature. It is located in Grahamstown . NELM has principally three collections manuscripts, books and journals, and press clippings. The museum also conducts many outreach programmes mainly focussed on school pupils and university students aimed at promoting and creating awareness of South Africa s rich literary heritage. It has a substantial collection of materials of the South African author, and later terrorism writer, Jillian Becker. History The museum was established in 1972. Prof Guy Butler poet Guy F Butler , the Head of Department of the Rhodes University English Department and himself a poet, became aware of the need for the manuscripts of South African authors to be collected. His collection of his and other writers material soon became too large for the cupboard he at first housed it in. By an act of parliament NELM was eventually born. The NELM collections currently occupy three adjacent buildings in Beaufort Street.
