  1. Objective precision

Refimprove date May 2008 Objective precision Latin praecisio obiectiva is a philosophy philosophical term and concept used in scholasticism late and especially second scholasticism describing the objective aspect of abstraction . Objective precision is the process by which certain features the differentia e of the real object of a formal concept are excluded from the comprehension of that concept the object is thus being intentionally transformed into a universal objective concept . Objective precision is thus a process by which universal objective concepts arise, it is the objective aspect of the process of total abstraction or concept formation. Objective precision and formal precision Objective precision is distinguished against formal precision . Whereas objective precision is a process on the part of objective concepts the objective correlates of the mental acts by means of which something is being conceived formal precision is the corresponding process on the part of formal concepts or the mental acts themselves. 1. Objective approach

Unreferenced date August 2008 Taking an objective approach to an issue means having due regard for the known valid evidence relevant fact s, logical implications and viewpoints and human purposes pertaining to that issue. If relevant valid evidence is denied or falsified, an objective approach is impossible. An objective approach is particularly important in science , and in decision making processes which affect large numbers of people e.g. politics . Science Scientific progress can be regarded as a three way contest between rival theories and a stock of valid evidence held in common. 1. Objective idealism

Refimprove date July 2008 Objective idealism is an idealism idealistic metaphysics that postulates that there is in an important sense only one perceiver, and that this perceiver is one with that which is perceived. Plato is regarded as one of the earliest representatives of objective idealism. http www.philosophos.com knowledge base archives 12 philosophy questions 12.html It is distinct from the subjective idealism of George Berkeley , and it abandons the thing in itself of Kant s dualism . Difference to other Idealisms Idealism , in terms of metaphysics, is the philosophical view that the mind or spirit constitutes the fundamental reality. It has taken several distinct but related forms. Among them are Objective and Subjective idealism. Objective idealism accepts common sense Realism the view that material objects exist but rejects Naturalism philosophy Naturalism according to which the mind and spiritual values have emerged from material things , whereas subjective idealism denies that material objects exist independently of human perception and thus stands opposed to both realism and naturalism. Quotation If subjective idealism locks itself within the sphere of the cognizing individual and the sensuous form of his cognition, objective idealism, on the contrary, lifts the result of human thought, of man s entire culture, to an absolute, ascribing to it absolutely independent suprapersonal being and active power. 1. Water immersion objective

In light microscopy , a water immersion objective is a specially designed Objective optics objective lens used to increase the Optical resolution resolution of the microscope. This is achieved by immersing both the lens and the specimen in water which has a higher refractive index than air, thereby increasing the numerical aperture of the objective lens. Applications Water immersion objectives are used not only at very large magnifications that require high resolving power, but also of moderate power as there are water immersion objectives as low as 4X. Objectives with high power magnification have short focal length s, facilitating the use of water. The water is applied to the specimen conventional microscope , and the stage is raised, immersing the objective in water. Sometimes with water dipping objectives, the objective is directly immersed in the solution of water which contains the specimens to look at. Electrophoretic preparations used for instance in the cases of Comet Essay can benefit largely with water objectives. The refractive indices of the water and of the glass in the first lens are different but less than it would be the cases between air and glass as it will be the case with a non immersion objective, which means that the refraction of light will be small upon entering the lens. Correction collar Unlike oil, water does not have the same or near identitical refractive value as the cover slip glass, so a correction collar is needed to be able to variate for its thickness. Lens without correction collar generally are made for the use of a 0.17  mm cover slip or for use without a coverslip dipping lens . 1. Recovery time objective

Unreferenced date July 2008 The recovery time objective RTO is the duration of time and a service level within which a business process must be restored after a disaster or disruption in order to avoid unacceptable consequences associated with a break in business continuity . It can include the time for trying to fix the problem without a recovery, the recovery itself, testing, and the communication to the users. Decision time for users representative is not included. The business continuity timeline usually runs parallel with an incident management timeline and may start at the same, or different, points. In accepted business continuity planning methodology the RTO is established during the Business Impact Analysis BIA by the owner of a process usually in conjunction with the business continuity planner . The RTOs are then presented to senior management for acceptance. The RTO attaches to the business process and not the resources required to support the process. The RTO and the results of the BIA in its entirety provide the basis for identifying and analyzing viable strategies for inclusion in the business continuity plan. Viable strategy options would include any which would enable resumption of a business process in a time frame at or near the RTO. 1. Objective collapse theory

Quantum mechanics Objective collapse theories are an approach to the interpretation of quantum mechanics interpretational problems of quantum mechanics . They are realistic, indeterministic and reject hidden variables . The approach is similar to the Copenhagen interpretation , but more firmly objective. Compared to other approaches Collapse theories stand in opposition to many world theories, in that they hold that a process of wavefunction collapse curtails the branching of the wavefunction and removes unobserved behaviour. Objective collapse theories differ from the Copenhagen interpretation in regarding both the wavefunction and the process of collapse as ontologically objective. The Copenhagen interpretation includes collapse, but it is non committal about the objective reality of the wave function, and because of that it is possible to regard Copenhagen style collapse as a subjective or informational phenomenon. In objective theories, there is an ontologically real wave of some sort corresponding to the mathematical wave function, and collapse occurs randomly spontaneous localization , or when some physical threshold is reached, with observers having no special role. Variations Objective collapse theories regard the present formalism of quantum mechanics as incomplete, in some sense. For that reason it is more correct to call them theories than interpretations. They divide into two subtypes, depending on how the hypothesised mechanism of collapse stands in relation to the unitary evolution of the wavefunction. Collapse is found within the evolution of the wavefunction, often by modifying the equations to introduce small amounts of non linearity. A well known example is the Ghirardi Rimini Weber theory ref http www.romanfrigg.org writings GRW 20Theory.pdf Frigg, Roman GRW theory in F. Weinert, D. Greenberger, B. Falkenburg, K.
