  1. Soft Ergonomics

Soft Ergonomics is the study of designing virtual interfaces that cater towards the wellness of the human body, its emotional and cognitive abilities. Soft Ergonomics is a subset of Ergonomics and Human Factors Human Factors Engineering , a larger body of the study of human abilities for designing equipment and devices that fit the human body. Soft Ergonomics can be thus defined as the ability of any virtual interface computer application, website, ATM options, parking meter etc to make it comfortable for the user to use the interface while working on the user s request. Overview Soft Ergonomics only deals with virtual interfaces. It tries to find a compromise between user expectations, system workflow and aesthetics. Users from various cultural and technological background are exposed to a common interface. The interface developer seeks to ensure that the interface does not harm the user psychologically, physiologically or emotionally. Soft Ergonomics generally takes into account the following human factors when building a virtual interface 1. Physical Limitations Not all who use a virtual interface are physically equal. If the designed interface only caters to right handed individuals, or people within a certain height range then the interface might need a redesign. One of the leading discussion is w.r.t visually impaired users. As a amateur of fact, the US government mandates that all government websites should adhere to Section 508 . 2. Cognitive Abilities If the product software application, website is designed for any casual user, then the designer should not expect that all ..., which eventually builds stress in the body causing long term emotional damage. 1. Computer-aided ergonomics

orphan date August 2009 Computer aided ergonomics is an engineering discipline using computers to solve complex ergonomic problems involving interaction between the human body and its environment. The human body holds a great complexity thus it can be beneficial to use computers to solve problems involving the human body and the environment that surrounds it. Overview Computer aided ergonomics is an interdisciplinary field of work that involves the use of a computer to solve complex problems regarding a human body interacting with an environment. As the title reveals, having a computer to help find the best ergonomic solution in a given situation. Ergonomics traditionally involves many disciplines including biomechanics, anthropometry, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, kinesiology, health sciences and physiology. Due to the highly interdisciplinary and complex nature of ergonomics it is hard to get a full understanding of a situation. 1. IPaint

IPaint is an animation editing program for the Unisys ICON ICON computer. IPaint animates drawings on the principle of points that act as pivots. To animate a figure, the user creates a line drawing, then copies the drawing to a new frame and moves the figure s points to new positions. IPaint then calculates the tweening frames. This results in the figure appearing to move between its position in the first frame and its position in the second frame. IPaint, in its most recent version IPaintII, released in 1995, supports two colour drawings. Origin IPaint was produced by the Ergonomics Lab at the University of Toronto . The Ergonomics Lab created a number of popular programs for the ICON in addition to IPaint ITalk, MusicLand, ChemistryLand, Build A Bird. IPaint was designed by Martin Lamb and programmed primarily by Jim Martin. References Refimprove date July 2007 Category Graphics software compu graphics stub ...   more details

Orphan date February 2009 Human Thermal Environments is a branch of the discipline Ergonomics , concerned with the thermal comfort i.e. whether a person feels too cold, hot, sticky etc. of human beings in any, but especially in their working environment. Convective, conductive, radiative and insulating properties of the human body and the environment in which it finds itself are all variables whose effects are closely considered in this science. The aim of the discipline is to manipulate these variables in the environment and or the clothing of the individual to achieve thermal comfort , the state in which the individual is content with their perceived thermal state.
