History Early connect cards used the PCMCIA or ExpressCard ports, commonly found on legacy laptops. The expression connect card instead of connection card had been registered and used the first time by Vodafone as brand for its products but now is become a brandnomer or genericized trademark used in colloquial or commerce commercial speech for similar product, made by different manufacturers, too. 1. PMW-EX1

Orphan date February 2009 The PMW EX1 is a high definition video high definition camcorder made by Sony ref http www.sonybiz.net biz view ShowProduct.action?product PMW EX1&site biz en EU&pageType Overview&imageType Main&category XDCAMCamcorders ref costing 7,790 MSRP The Sony EX1 is popular among independent filmmakers due to the 1 2 TrueHD sensors, better depth of field control, and better low light capabilities. Other comparable class cameras use 1 3 sensors and pixel shifting or other schemes to simulate resolution. The PMW EX1 utilizes Sony s three 1 2 inch type Exmor CMOS sensors, each with an effective pixel count of 1920 x 1080. Coupled with signal processing LSI, the PMW EX1 produces images in 1080p 30 and 24 frame s , 720p up to 60 frame s and 1080i up to 60 frame s HD. The Sony EX1 records internally to SxS S by S cards 8,16,32 gig and does not internally record to tape an external tape device would be required . Unfortunately the expense of SxS 160, 530 and 860 respectively cards has been a major impediment to the indie filmmaker. The introduction of the XDCAM SxS SxS 1 card in December 2009 created a more affordable option for filmmakers, at the expense of a shorter operational life than SxS Pro cards. Development of the ExpressCard adapters such as MxR, MxM and KxT have allowed the use of less expensive SDHC cards at standard frame rates and 720p rates up to 42 frame s. Unfortunately only certain SDHC usually class 4 or class 6 from certain manufacturers Transcend and Sandisk work with certain adapters. In comparison the 16 gig SxS card has a street price of 530, while the SDHC Sandisk class 4 card is 50. Further complications are because some ExpressCard adapters do not allow the camera card door to close. sup 2 sup These Express card adapters are not officially supported by Sony, but the firmware v1.11 or later supports them. For 4 2 2 color, an external recording device would be required to be used utilizing the EX1 s HD SDI out. External recording ...   more details

  1. DMA attack

In cryptography , a Direct Memory Access DMA attack is a type of side channel attack where the theft of cryptographic key s or many other activities can be conducted by an attacker who has direct access to the physical memory address space of the computer. Description In modern operating system s, non system ie, user mode applications are prevented from accessing any memory locations not explicitly authorized by the virtual memory controller called the MMU or Memory Mapping Unit . In addition to containing damage from inadvertent software bugs and allowing more efficient use of physical memory, this architecture forms an integral part of the security of a modern operating system. However, kernel mode drivers, many hardware devices, and occasional user mode vulnerabilities, allow the direct, unimpeded access of the physical memory address space. The physical address space includes all of the main system memory, as well as memory mapped busses and hardware devices which are controlled by the operating system through reads and writes as if they were ordinary RAM . Kernel mode drivers have many powers to compromise the security of a system, and care must be taken to load trusted, bug free drivers. For example, recent versions of Microsoft Windows require drivers to be tested and digitally signed by Microsoft, and prevent any non signed drivers from being installed. Systems may be vulnerable to a DMA attack by an external device if they have a IEEE 1394 interface FireWire , ExpressCard , Thunderbolt interface Thunderbolt , or other expansion port that, like PCI and PCI Express in general, hooks up attached devices directly to the physical address space. An attacker could, for example, send a lucky winner a Thunderbolt device. Upon connecting to a computer, the device, through its direct and unimpeded access to the physical address space, would be able to bypass almost all security measures of the OS and have the ability to read encryption keys, install malware, or contro ...   more details
