refimprove date October 2011 Al Fao is a self propelled artillery system designed for the Iraqi Army by the late Canada Canadian weapon s engineer , Gerald Bull . Retrieved 29 October 2011 ref The Al Fao weighs 48 tons and is claimed to be able to fire four 109  kg 240  lb rounds a minute, with a top speed of about 72  km h 44  mph attainable on the road. Its projectile s could be filled with chemical weapon s such as sarin , Sulfur mustard mustard or phosgene gases as well as conventional Explosive material High explosives high explosive s. The weapon is named after the Al Faw peninsula in southern Iraq , which was the scene of heavy fighting during the Iran Iraq War in the 1980s. The difference in spelling is due to differing transliteration s of the Arabic name. The gun was designed and built in Europe and was first displayed publicly in Baghdad in 1989. It does not appear to have entered into Iraqi service, however and none were captured during the 1991 Gulf War the programme was probably cancelled thereafter. It was similar in design to the South Africa South African G6 howitzer , with which Bull was also involved as a designer, and appears to have been directly inspired by that system. Interestingly the Al Fao, sometimes referred to as G7, was a wheeled mount. While G6 is already a big and heavy Self propelled gun SP , Al Fao is even bigger. To handle the howitzer s recoil, the wheeled platform was not robust enough, so a very large muzzle brake had to be fitted. The Al Fao was one of two similar self propelled howitzers developed by Bull for the Iraqis, the other being the Al Majnoon 155  mm howitzer. See also List of artillery References ... more details

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations FAO developed a supra national classification, also called World Soil Classification , which offers useful generalizations about soil s pedogenesis in relation to the interactions with the main soil forming factors. It was first published in form of the UNESCO Soil Map of the World 1974 scale 1 5 M. . Many of the names offered in that classification are known in many countries and do have similar meanings. Originally developed as a legend to the Soil Map of the World, the classification was applied by United Nations sponsored projects. Many countries modified this system to fit their particular needs. The Soil Units 106 were mapped as Soil Associations, designated by the dominant soil unit with soil phases soil properties, such as saline, lithic, stony , with three soil texture textural classes coarse, medium, and fine three slopes classes superimposed level to gently undulating, rolling to hilly, and steeply dissected to mountainous Soil Units form 26 World Classes. The FAO soil map was a very simple classification system with units very broad, but was the first truly international system, and most soils could be accommodated on the basis of their field descriptions. The FAO soil map was intended for mapping soils at a continental scale but not at local scale. In 1998 this system was replaced by the World Reference Base for Soil Resources .
