FalseDmitryIII , also called Pseudo Demetrius III Russian III died c. 1612 , was the last and most enigmatic of three pretenders to the Russia n throne who claimed to be the youngest son of Ivan the Terrible , Tsarevich Dmitry Ivanovich Dmitry . Supposed to have been a deacon called Sidorka, he appeared suddenly, from behind the river Narva River Narva , in the Ingria n town of Ivangorod , proclaiming himself the Tsarevich Dmitry Ivanovich, on March 28, 1611. The Cossacks , ravaging the environs of Moscow , acknowledged him as Tsar on March 2, 1612, and under threat of vengeance in case of non compliance, the gentry of Pskov also kissed the cross i.e., swore allegiance to the thief of Pskov , as he was usually nicknamed. On May 18, 1612 he fled from Pskov, was seized and delivered up to the authorities at Moscow, and was secretly executed there. After his father s death in 1490 he became heir presumptive of Muscovy. His grandfather Ivan III of Russia officially proclaimed Dmitry the only heir on February 15, 1491 when he was crowned Grand Prince of Vladimir. Even after receiving the title and official position Dmitry Ivanovich did not play any role in Grand Duchy s political life. On the other side his uncle Vasili III of Russia Vasili received from Ivan III of Russia control of Novgorod and Pskov in 1499. During the next 3 years Moscowy court became a place of conspiracy between supporters of Dmitry represented by his mother Elena and supporters of Ivan s second born son Vasili supported by his mother and Ivan III s second wife Sophia Paleologue . Dmitry was the second son of Alexander Nevsky . When his elder brother Vasily died young, Dmitry remained the chief heir to his illustrious father. As early as 1259, he was left by Alexander in charge of Novgorod . Upon Alexander s death in 1264, however, the Novgorodians expelled Dmitry to his native Pereslavl Zalessky , citing his youth as a pretext. Four years later, when Dmitry had turned 18, he was welcomed back to Novgorod and together with his future son in law, Daumantas of Pskov led a local militia against Livonian Knights in the Battle of Wesenberg 1268 Battle of Rakvere . Prince Dmitry Ivanovich Shuisky was a Russia n boyar from the Shuisky family, a younger brother to Vasily IV of Russia . As a playmate of young Tsarevich Feodor I of Russia Feodor Ivanovich , Dmitry was said to accompany him day and night in his devout wanderings from monastery to monastery. In 1584, his slandering of Prince Ivan Belsky led to riots in Moscow . Two years later, he was attested as a governor of Kargopol . On Fyodor s accession to the throne, he quarrelled with another boyar, Boris Godunov , and was expelled to his family patrimony in Shuya . Later he made peace with Godunov and married his sister in law. Shuisky is best remembered as a singularly incapable general. He was routed by FalseDmitry I in 1606 and shared disgrace and imprisonment with his brother Vasily. When the latter was elected Tsar , he put Dmitry in charge of the army which would lose its every battle against the Polish invaders and their allies. At last he was relieved of his duties and replaced with a young cousin, Mikhail Skopin Shuisky , whom many regarded as the future tsar. The rumour had it that Dmitry grew jealous of his much more successful colleague and poisoned Mikhail in his own house. This was cited as one of the reasons for Shuisky being snubbed by his soldiers and populace. In the Battle of Klushino he suffered an ignominious defeat he was asleep when the battle started and escaped to Moscow barefoot. The Poles captured him and took with them to Warsaw , where he died in 1613. efron Persondata Metadata see Wikipedia Persondata .
