In the year 1800, Ferdinand Auguste de Lur Saluces married a descendant of the founders, Marie Th r se Gabrielle de Montalier, which for a time made the estate part of the wine empire of the Lur Saluces family. In 2002, Anne Farges restarted winemaking at Ch teau Romer, with the 2002 vintage the first to reappear under the ch teau s own name. ref n ...   more details

Thuja sutchuenensis Sichuan Thuja is a species of thuja , an evergreen conifer ous tree in the cypress family Cupressaceae . It is native to China , where it is a critically endangered local endemic ecology endemic in Chongqing Municipality in eastern Sichuan . It is a small or medium sized tree, reaching possibly 20 m tall, though no trees of this size are currently known. The foliage forms in flat sprays with scale like leaf leaves 1.5 4  mm long, green above, and with narrow white stoma tal bands below. The conifer cone cones are oval, green ripening brown, 5 8  mm long and 3 4.2  mm broad opening to 7  mm broad , with 8 10 overlapping scales. It was first described in 1899 from specimens collected by the France French botanist Paul Guillaume Farges in 1892 and 1900, but was not seen again thereafter, despite many searches, for almost 100 years and was presumed to be extinct due to over cutting for its valuable scented wood . A small number of specimens were however rediscovered in 1999, growing on very inaccessible steep ridges close to or at the same site where Farges had first found it. The area of its occurrence has now been designated a Special Protection Area in order to protect the species. In early 1819 the two ships USRC Alabama 1819 USRC Alabama and USRC Louisiana 1819 USRC Louisiana were finished being built in New York and fitted with one pivot gun each. The sister ship s cost 4,500 apiece and were sent to the Gulf of Mexico to conduct counter piracy patrols. Alabama was assigned to the Mobile Squadron and Louisiana assigned to the New Orleans Squadron . Sometime in August 1819, Alabama was temporarily assigned to New Orleans to help thwart the pirate incidents in those waters with the Louisiana . On August 31, the two ships were sailing the Gulf off southern Florida when they sighted the schooner Bravo pirate ship Bravo . The Americans gave chase and eventually came within range. Bravo resisted and a brief gunnery duel occurred, then the Americans boarded the enemy. The pirates were captured. Jean La Farges commanded the suspected privateer, he was a lieutenant of Jean Lafitte . Apparently no letter of marque was presented to the Americans which explained why the pirates fled at the sight of the Revenue Cutter schooners. The pirates were taken into United States custody and probably hanged later on. Casualties are unknown. More battles between United States naval forces ...   more details
