Born in 1943 Elizabeth Fink in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to a family of farmers, teachers, doctors and railroad executives. She is a graduate of Topeka High School and Middlebury College . She earned an Master of Arts postgraduate M.A. in Latin American History from Stanford University and lived in Peru and Chile for extended periods. Farnsworth is an expert on South America .
