  1. Fast ion conductor

In solid state ionics , fast ion conductors , also known as solid electrolytes and superionic conductors , are materials that act as solid solid state ion conductors and are used primarily in solid oxide fuel cell s. As solid electrolytes they conduct due to the movement of ions through voids, or empty crystallographic positions, in their crystal lattice structure. The most commonly used solid electrolyte is yttria stabilized zirconia , YSZ. One component of the structure, the cation or anion , is essentially free to move throughout the structure, acting as charge carrier . The important case of fast ionic conduction is one in a surface space charge layer of ionic crystals. 1. Conductor pipe

The Conductor Pipe ref http www.glossary.oilfield.slb.com Display.cfm?Term conductor 20pipe Conductor pipe ref is a large diameter pile that is set into the ground to provide the initial stable structural foundation for a borehole or oil well . It can also be referred to as a drive pipe because it is often driven into the ground with a pile driver . Conductor pipe is tyically set, on petroleum wells, before any drilling operations are performed. It is usually set with special pile driving or spudder rigs, though the drilling rig petroleum drilling rig is sometimes used to save time and money. In the offshore drilling industry, the conductor pipe is set in the seabed, and is a key structural foundation for the subsea wellhead . When drilling an offshore well, a marine riser is connected to the well, and this is subjected to large environmental forces such as current and waves which are transferred to the conductor. The forces can be large and also cyclical which can potentially causing fatigue damage to conductor especially in the harsh environmental conditions. A Conductor tensioner unit CTU can be used in shallow water on jackup rig to withstand such damaging forces. 1. Conductor tensioner

notability date June 2008 unreferenced date July 2008 A conductor tensioner unit is installed on an offshore jackup rig to apply upward tension on the conductor. The conductor tensioner is installed into the conductor deck and is usually removable in order to protect the unit during transit. The drilling conductor is the first and outer tubular which runs from the drilling rig into the seabed . It is usually installed by drilling a hole into the seabed, then running the tubular into the hole and cement ing to the seabed. It can also be installed by driving with a pile hammer . Why are conductors tensioned? Allows smaller surface conductors such as 9 5 8 or 13 3 8 to be used in any water depth. This results in a significant well cost savings, particularly for exploration. Allows the larger conductor sizes say 20 and 30 to be used in greater water depths. Prevents large cyclic tensions from being induced in conductors when large wave forces are applied. The conductor tensioner applies a spring force to the top of the conductor pipe . The tensioner prevents overload of the conductor deck compared to a jacking system without accumulators. 1. Perfect conductor

Unreferenced date January 2011 A perfect conductor is an electrical conductor with no resistivity . The concept is used to model systems in which the electrical resistance or resistivity is negligible compared to other effects. One such model is Magnetohydrodynamics Ideal MHD ideal magnetohydrodynamics , the study of perfectly conductive fluids. Another example is electrical circuit diagram s, which carry the implicit assumption that the wires connecting the components have no resistance. All known materials that are perfectly conductive also happen to be Superconductivity superconductors . The latter, in addition to having no electrical resistance, exhibit quantum effects such as the Meissner effect and quantization physics quantization of magnetic flux through closed loops. The property of perfect conductance, together with the law of electromagnetic induction , requires that the magnetic field inside a perfect conductor remain fixed, but according to classical electrodynamics it could have a nonzero, eternal value. In real superconductors, all magnetic flux is expelled during the phase transition to superconductivity, and the magnetic field is zero within the bulk of the superconductor the Meissner effect . A perfect conductor without the special quantum properties of real superconductors is known as a classical superconductor , but that phrase is ambiguous as it is also used in some communities to distinguish between conventional superconductor s and high temperature superconductor s. No such materials are known to exist, though the concept is a useful idealization of the low resistivity case in many systems. The appointment was also reintroduced into the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps for selected Warrant Officers Class 1 in 2005. History The first known mention of Conductors is in the 1327 Statute of Westminster 1327 Statute of Westminster , when they are mentioned as the men whose job it was to conduct soldiers to places of assembly. The Conductor of Ordnance is mentioned in the records of the siege of Boulogne sur Mer Boulogne in 1544 and Conductors are mentioned several times in surviving records from the 17th century. In 1776 they are described in Thomas Simes s book The Military Guide for Young Officers as assistants to the Commissary of Stores. The Land Transport Corps and the Military Stores Department of the 19th century both included Conductors in their strength. On 11 January 1879, a Royal Warrant established Conductors of Supplies in the Royal Army Service Corps Army Service Corps and Conductors of Stores in the Ordnance Store Branch as Warrant Officers, ranking above all non commissioned officers.
