Scots law A fatalaccidentinquiry FAI is a Scottish judicial process which investigates and determines the circumstances of some deaths occurring in Scotland. They do not at present unlike the Inquests in England and Wales English equivalent process apply to deaths occurring in other jurisdictions . History FatalAccident Inquiries were introduced into Scots Law by the Fatal Accidents Inquiry Scotland Act 1895 , before which time the circumstances of a death which required examination were determined by a Procurator Fiscal . Since then, the procurator fiscal now deals with the investigation and initiation of such inquiries. unreferenced date March 2012 In certain local Policing in the United States police departments in the United States , the Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team FART is a group of police officers dedicated to investigating Car accident motor vehicle accidents that result in death. These type of investigations can involve vehicle on vehicle, vehicle on fixed object or vehicle on pedestrian. The investigation of accidents with no survivors is of particular interest, because the detectives often have no witness eyewitnesses to give an account of the event. Thus the FART must rely on Forensics forensic evidence, such as tire skid marks, tire scuffmarks yaw marks or other tire marks to assist in determining what happened in the collision sequence. An accident with both survivors and fatalities is also of concern, because police cannot depend on the survivor s to accurately recount the accident. Survivors are often unconscious, incapacitated, or traumatized and thus unable to speak to police. Even if survivors are able to give a statement, their memory may not be perfect, or they may be lying to avoid charges such as vehicular homicide or vehicular manslaughter . In general, the FARTs try to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the accident, much like criminal detectives attempt to Crime reconstruction reconstruct crimes . Cooperative inquiry , also known as collaborative inquiry was first proposed by John Heron in 1971 and later expanded with Peter Reason . The major idea of cooperative inquiry is to research with rather than on people. It emphasizes that all active participants are fully involved in research decisions as co researchers. Cooperative inquiry creates a research cycle among four different types of knowledge propositional knowing as in contemporary science , practical knowing the knowledge that comes with actually doing what you propose , experiential knowing the feedback we get in real time about our interaction with the larger world and presentational knowing the artistic rehearsal process through which we craft new practices . The research process iterates these four stages at each cycle with deepening experience and knowledge of the initial proposition, or of new propositions, at every cycle. Stage 1 The first reflection phase that determines topics and methods of inquiry. This phase involves primarily propositional knowing.
