  1. Fathers and Forefathers

orphan date February 2009 No footnotes date December 2009 Fathers and Forefathers is a novel written by Serbian author Slobodan Seleni Serb . In the UK, it is currently published by Harvill Press , an imprint of Random House . Summary The novel is set in Belgrade , just before World War II , and it covers over fifty years of Serbian history . It tells the story of a young Englishwoman, Elizabeth, and Steven, a Serb who meet at University in England and fall in love. They leave England to begin a new life together in Serbia . Through Elizabeth s letters home it is revealed that she is having difficulties adapting to Serbian culture , although Steven s narrative provides a very different take on events. Their son, Mihajlo, is ashamed of his mixed parentage and rebels radically against his English roots. On the eve of the war, the family s loyalties are tested and tragedy ensues. Although the novel is set in a time of many years ago, it deals with what many consider to be a very current theme that of the clash, or at least the juxtaposition, of two cultures in this case the culture clash between English culture and Serbian culture , and the subsequent Social alienation alienation of the individuals involved. It has sold over 100,000 copies in Serbia. 1. Somaschi Fathers

The Somascan Fathers are a charitable religious congregation of priests and brothers, founded in Italy in the 16th century by Saint Jerome Emiliani and named after the mother house at Somasca . They are often called Somascans for short. Their formal name is Ordo Clericorum Regularium a Somascha , abbreviated as C.R.S. after members names. There are currently about 500 Somascans serving around the world. They run many boys homes, pastor parishes, and engage in other ministries. History In 1532, the priests Alessandro Besuzio and Agostino Bariso joined the charitable labors of St. Jerome Emiliani, a converted former soldier from Venice. St. Jerome founded the religious order called the Company of the Servants of the Poor in 1534, calling together his collaborators and companions for a general assembly. This handful of laymen and priests adopted an organized structure for the movement of religious and social reform started by Jerome in 1529 in Venice . Their goal was to dedicate themselves to the care, assistance, promotion of poor, orphans, abandoned youth, sick, etc, to any kind of works of mercy, and to any pastoral ministry according to the instructions of the bishops. placing the motherhouse at Somascha, a secluded hamlet between Milan and Bergamo . 1. Anecdote for Fathers

Unreferenced date January 2009 Anecdote for Fathers is a poem written by William Wordsworth and is included in the Lyrical Ballads I have a boy of five years old His face is fair and fresh to see His limbs are cast in beauty s mould, And dearly he loves me. One morn we strolled on our dry walk, Our quiet home all full in view, And held such intermitted talk As we are wont to do. At this, my boy hung down his head, He blushed with shame, nor made reply And three times to the child I said, Why, Edward, tell me why? His head he raised there was in sight, It caught his eye, he saw it plain Upon the house top, glittering bright, A broad and gilded vane. Then did the boy his tongue unlock, And eased his mind with this reply At Kilve there was no weather cock And that s the reason why. O dearest, dearest boy my heart For better ...   more details
