  1. Fawn Island

orphan date March 2009 Fawn Island is a small Canadian island located in the St. Clair River between Sombra, Ontario and Marine City, Michigan . The island is home to about 52 cottages and approximately 20 additional lots. There are no cars on the island, rather all cottages are reached via boat through two canals. A private ferry service transports cottage owners to and from the island. Many residents also have boats of their own and owners can park right outside their doors as every cottage has waterfront access on at least one side. rideing lawn mowers are also another way of transportation. The Fawn Island Owners Association makes the rules and regulations that govern the island and the property owners. The island is in the province of Ontario , Canada , approximately 50 miles 80 km northeast of Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario . History Fawn Island was granted by Queen Victoria to Captain Whitley who built a summer hotel with a dance pavilion on the north end of the Island. Excursion boats would stop for people to enjoy the hotel, dancing and picnics. After the hotel was abandoned, it is rumored a wild boar roamed the Island and people were afraid to go there. In 1955, Mr. J.L Thompson, Mayor of Wallaceburg and a lumber dealer, recognized that this piece of land in the St. Clair River could become a summer resort type of community. So his dream began to happen. At that time, four buildings were on the Island a cottage on the South end owned by Mr. & Mrs. Auberlin of Detroit now Brayl Copp s , a cottage on the West side used by a caretaker now Schwartz s , a small building on what is now McCaffery s property, and the house which George Robertson was renovating. Changing the streets to canals was a huge undertaking. Trees, stumps and undergrowth had to be removed before digging could begin. Earth was moved to the low and marshy areas of the Island. The first canal was named the George Robertson Waterway and took two years to dig and move the 100,000 tons of earth ...   more details

  1. Parasitaster, or The Fawn

Parasitaster, or The Fawn is an early Literature in English Jacobean literature Jacobean play, written by the dramatist and satirist John Marston poet John Marston in 1604 in literature 1604 , and performed by the Children of the Chapel Children of the Queen s Revels in the Blackfriars Theatre . The play was entered into the Stationers Register on March 12, 1606 in literature 1606 , and published later that year, in two separate states the Epistle in the second states that it is a corrected version of the first, by the author. An apparent allusion in IV,i, 310 to the bloody execution of Sir Everard Digby ref Digby was drawn and quartered for his role in the Gunpowder Plot . ref on Jan. 30, 1606, indicates that Marston revised the play after that date. ref Chambers, Vol. 3, p. 433. ref The play tells the story of Duke Hercules, who disguises himself as a flattering courtier, the Fawn, in order to infiltrate the court of Duke Gonzago and observe the behaviour of his son Tiberio, who has been sent to Gonzago as an ambassador. In the process, Hercules observes the lechery of Gonzago s courtiers, who are all embroiled in seedy sexual adventures, and the vanity and stupidity of Gonzago himself, who is a pompous old windbag. At the play s conclusion, Hercules holds a symbolic Court of Cupid, in which all the foolish courtiers are arrested for their crimes against love and good sense. It is often assumed that Duke Gonzago was intended as an unflattering portrait of King James I of England James I , although it is not known whether the king took offence at this portrayal. A parasitaster is one who pretends to be a parasite or sycophant. Marston coined the term, following the example of Ben Jonson s coinage of the term poetaster for an inept and pretentious versifier, in his play of the same name.
