They are a community that was traditionally involved in the manufacture of articles made of straw and grass. The Sikriband consist of a number of endogamy endogamous groupings, such as the Nat, Madari, Bazigar, Deha, Bhope and Singikat . These groups are further divided into clans called gotra s, which are exogamy exogamous . Their main gotra s include the Athwal, Kilala, Chanal, Kurania, and Sarsar. History Origin and early history Giddarbaha was originally known as Pippli , after the Sacred fig Pipal tree, and started out as a small village. According to legend, when Guru Gobind Singh visited the place, he learned of the women of the village being disturbed by the Giddars when went to fetch water from the well. When the Guru was told that everybody in the village was married, except for the Giddar, he arranged for the marriage of the giddar. From then on the village was known by the locals as Giddar Viah . Giddar Viah increased in importance as an agricultural market for the local areas, and grew to become a town. It does not exist on any tourist map. However, it is the part of an ancient civilisation which is broadly referred to as the Harappa n civilisation . Location The site is situated about 220  km to the northwest of New Delhi on the New Delhi Fazilka national highway and about 14  km northeast of the district headquarter on the Bhuna road in the Fatehabad district. The site is one of the many sites seen along the channels of the ancient Saraswati riverine systems, now represented by the seasonal Ghaggar River which flows in modern Haryana from Nahan to Sirsa. The mound measures 190 m north south and 240 m east west and rises to a height of 5.50 m from the surrounding area of flat alluvial sottar plain. Excavations The Excavation Branch I, Nagpur of the Archaeological Survey of India excavated this site for three field seasons during 2003 04, 2004 05 and 2005 06. Cultures The excavation has revealed these cultural periods Period IA Hakra Wares Culture, Period IB Early Harappan Culture, Period IIA Early Mature Harappan and Period IIB Mature Harappan Culture. One such group was of the BRAR clan who used to come from Doda Pargana. They considered it as a fortunate place as it had water all throughout the year and the pond was surrounded by large number of trees which included 52 Pipal trees. The word Bhagsar is derieved from two words BHAG meaning fortune and SAR meaning a water , there by meaning the fortunate water . Earlier it was also known as BHAGPURI DHAB . Dhab also means a water reservoir. bhup singh and kapoor singh were the founders of the village and later on Rai Singh s o Alla Singh also joined them. Three patti s in the village are named after 3 brothers Alla Singh, Kapoor Singh and bhup Bamu Singh. The village allotment deed was signed by S. Sher Singh, King of Faridkot state after receiving 1 camel & 1 mohar as nazrana on 18 Phagun 1893 Bikarmi Samat i.e 2 3 March 1837. After 8 yrs of founding the village Jai Singh brother of Rai Singh was killed by his cousin from a resident of Bamu patti. The descendents of Jai Singh shifted and founded another village Lakhewali. A year before the settlement Rai Singh came back to Bhagsar & claimed his land rights in the village & also kept his share in land at Lakhewali. The place where this fight took place his on the eastern side of the village were a shrine has been erected in his memory. Bhagsar village was part of Faridkot princely State during its inception.
