  1. Landing fee

Unreferenced date March 2009 A landing fee is a charge paid by an aircraft to an airport company for landing at a particular airport . Landing fees can vary greatly between airports, with congested airports, ones where most of the landing slots are held by airlines being able to charge premium prices because of supply and demand, while less congested airports charge less because the demand is not as high. The money generated by landing fees is used to pay for the maintenance or expansion of the airport s buildings, runways , airport ramp apron s and taxiway s. Landing fees can also be used to attract more flights by keeping the fees low. Some airports, especially general aviation airports do not charge landing fees. There may be a correlation between the amount of traffic an airport can manage and its fees, based on the assumption that a larger airport can handle more traffic and thus spread the total airport maintenance and operating costs out over more carriers, as well as being able to generate more revenues from concessions, retail, parking and other services. Landing fees may encompass additional airports provided services. Some airports will simply charge a single fee for landing and provide gates and check in facilities as part of that fee. Other airports will charge a lower fee for landing but will charge airlines for the use of gates and check in facilities. Landing fees cannot be compared since a number of factors affect the amount of landing fees. For example, many airports in the United States receive subsidies from the FAA while airports in Canada do not. Canadian airports are actually taxed in the form of ground rent. Fees can be based on any number of factors including Weight Number of seats Time of day Aircraft home airport some airports do not charge fees for aircraft based at that airport or offer a lower fee for them Operator class some airports may charge a fee for specific types of operators, like part 135 or 121, and not other aircraft operators ...   more details

  1. Late fee

Refimprove date April 2010 A late fee , also known as a late fine or a past due fee , is a charge levied against a client by a company or organization for not paying a bill or returning a rented or borrowed item by its due date. Its use is most commonly associated with businesses like creditors, video rental outlets and library libraries . Late fees are generally calculated on a per day, per item basis. Organizations encourage the payment of late fees by suspending a client s borrowing or rental privileges until accumulated fees are paid, sometimes after these fees have exceeded a certain level. Significant portions of the revenue of creditors, video rental outlets, and libraries alike come from the payment of late fees. Late fees are widely regarded as an annoyance . In 2005, video rental chain Blockbuster Video capitalized on this perception with a major advertising campaign that touted a revision of its rental policy as The End of Late Fees . More recently, in 2006, Rogers Video has used the same technique, except only for movies, and without any restocking fee due to movies costing much less than video games . Late fees charged by banks, landlords, and utilities have been heavily criticized as a penalty against the poor, and attempts have been made in some places to outlaw them completely or place caps on them. The argument against them is that the poor will inevitably be forced to pay them as they cannot earn the money to pay their bills by the due date. These people will be forced to pay even higher fees for the same services, and will find making future timely payments to their creditors even more difficult. A special use of the term late fee is additional postage that was once required by Post Offices to allow inclusion of a letter or package in the outgoing mail dispatch although having been posted later than the normal closing time for mail. Often a special Late Fee Box was provided. See also Grace period Turn off notice External links LISWiki link Late fees ...   more details

  1. Resort fee

A resort fee is a mandatory nightly surcharge imposed by hotel s, nominally to cover the cost of certain amenities. Unlike room rates, which vary hugely according to season, the resort fee is generally a fixed amount per night. By charging a resort fee, the hotel is able to advertise a lower nightly rate, which may give it a competitive advantage over competitors not charging the fee who must then advertise a higher nightly rate in order to realise the same income. In some cases the existence of a resort fee is not well publicised, and the guest might only find out about it upon check in. ref http travel.nytimes.com 2006 03 12 travel 12prac.html ref The fee is usually described as covering amenities such as internet access , fitness center usage, parking, and a daily newspaper. Although many hotels will charge guests for these amenities, the actual additional cost of providing a night s internet access or fitness center usage is negligible, and therefore while the bundled services may have a high separate cost, that cost unlike resort fees is at least avoidable by guests not wishing to use the amenities. citation needed date April 2012 Resort fees are most prominent within the United States , with particular high levels of concentration in the states of Florida particularly the city of Orlando , Hawaii the entire state and Nevada Las Vegas Valley Las Vegas .
