He is known especially for his paintings of birds and landscapes, but was also a portrait painter. Von Wright s parents, Henrik Magnus von Wright and Maria Elisabet Tuderus, owned the Haminalahti manor in Kuopio . His brothers Magnus von Wright Magnus and Wilhelm von Wright Wilhelm were also painters. In 1838, Ferdinand traveled to Sweden to assist his brother Wilhelm in his illustration work, and worked as his brother s substitute as an illustrator at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts . During 1842 he studied for some time at the academy, and then returned to Finland in 1844. He lived a secluded but productive life in a cottage he built near his family s home. In 1885, he was granted an artist s pension by the government. Despite suffering paralysis beginning in 1884, Ferdinand continued to produce artistic works until his death. It was during this time that he produced his work The Fighting Capercaillies , one of Finland s most famous paintings. He earned his doctorate in Charles University in Prague Prague in 1839, and later became a professor of ophthalmology in Prague 1849 1856 and University of Vienna Vienna 1856 1883 . His son Ferdinand Ritter von Arlt 1842 1917 was also an ophthalmologist. Arlt published a prodiguous number of books and articles concerning diseases of the eye, and collaborated with Albrecht von Graefe and Franciscus Donders on the journal Archiv f r Ophthalmologie . Eugen Ferdinandvon Homeyer at first dedicated himself to agriculture on the family farm, where he began to make scientific observations and establish a collection. In 1840 he married and acquired in 1852 the property Warblewo, Pomeranian Voivodeship Warbelow where he built a landscape park. He sold this after the death of its wife in 1873 and then lived in S upsk Stolp , where he dedicated himself to the natural sciences and ornithology. He corresponded with many European ornithologists, and through further collecting and purchase built up an important collection of European bird species. He undertook several expeditions with Alfred Brehm to the Danube Lower Danube . Hansemann was born to Adolf von Hansemann , a notable Prussian industrialist and manager of the Disconto Society Disconto Gesellschaft , a large financial holding. Since early youth Hansemann was a member of various German nationalism nationalist organizations. As an owner of a large estate of P powo Pempowo P powo in the Province of Posen , he was also interested in Polish affairs. Thanks to his father s connections, in 1894 he entered in contact with Otto von Bismarck , who supported the creation of a new, all German nationalist organization that would unite all Germans interested in strengthening the German spirit and property in Polish inhabited areas. As one of its founders, in 1894 Hansemann was elected to the board of the newly established German Eastern Marches Society, a post he held until his death. As one of the closest associates and supporters of Heinrich von Tiedemann , von Hansemann was also active in other branches of the organization, notably holding the post of the editor in chief of the Die Ostmark monthly.
