  1. Tradition Records

Tradition Records was an United States American record label that existed from 1955 in music 1955 to 1961 in music 1961 . The label was founded and funded by Guggenheim heiress Diane Hamilton in 1956. Its first president and director was Patrick Clancy Patrick Paddy Clancy , who was soon to join his brothers and Tommy Makem , as part of the new Irish folk group, The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem . The label may possibly have originally begun as a non commercial exercise, but once popular artists and groups like The Clancy Brothers , Odetta , and Jean Ritchie recorded on the Tradition Label, it began to generate profits. When The Clancy Brothers signed with Columbia Records in 1961, the label ceased to be viable, and the catalogue was sold to Everest Records . Some Tradition recordings were issued without any notes in haphazard permutations. Later Rykodisc bought the rights, and issued several recordings under the Tradition logo. Some of these were actually from the Everest catalogue. The history is cloudy, but Dizzy Gillespie, Erroll Garner, Coleman Hawkins and Jimmy Witherspoon almost certainly never recorded for Tradition, though recent issues would suggest they did. For many years John Jacob Niles received little acclaim, but following the broadcast of the Bob Dylan documentary No Direction Home , there was a surge in the demand for his albums. His two albums on Tradition were accordingly reissued. 1. 1734 Tradition

The 1734 Tradition is a tradition of Traditional Witchcraft founded by the American Joseph Bearwalker Wilson Joseph Wilson , who developed it between 1964 and 1972 and founded the tradition in late 1973 and early 1974 http www.shadowdance.org toteg warts26.html . It was largely based upon the teachings which he received from an English Traditional Witch named Roy Bowers Robert Cochrane , the founder of Cochrane s Craft . Other influences on this tradition were a Kansas Witch who initiated him into a coven in Wichita, Kansas Wichita , known as Sean and also Ruth Wynn Owen , a Welsh Witch and founder of the Y Plant Bran tradition. More about these influences may be found on the 1734 Tradition web site, linked below. Wilson stated that 1734 was NOT intended to be a tradition by which legitimacy is recognised by a confirmed recognised pedigree and because of this he did not believe that there was any leader of 1734. He did mention in his writings whom he believed was authentic 1734 , talking only of people to whom he had taught his methods, and in so doing stated that there was no lineage of the Tradition. He was very specific in stating that it was NOT Wicca, and NOT a lineaged religious system . His best definition of the Tradition was that it was a Method, cloaked in a Mystery. Etymology Quote box width 246px align right quote Much of the way Robert Cochrane taught was through mystical questions such as What two words were not spoken from the Cauldron? The answers to the questions were less important than the process of answering them, and he was relentless about emphasizing the importance of that work source Joseph Wilson in Warts and All Some have suggested that the term 1734 refers to the year 1734 , and that Cochrane traced his Witch Blood back to that date. However, this claim has been refuted by a number of 1734 adherents, who claim that the number does not refer to the year. It is suggested that Robert Graves book, The White Goddess is the best source for a meaning ...   more details

The prefix on a ship s name indicates that it is a commissioned ship. For example, USS is an acronym which expands to United States Ship in the Royal Navy, HMS expands to Her Majesty s Ship or when a King reigns, His Majesty s Ship in the Indian Navy, INS expands to Indian Navy Ship, and so forth. An important tradition on board British naval vessels and later those of the U.S. and other nations has been the ship s bells ship s bell . This was historically used to mark the passage of time on board a vessel, including the duration of four hour watches. They were also employed as warning devices in heavy fog, and for alarms and ceremonies. The bell was originally kept polished first by the ship s cook, then later by a person belonging to that division of the ship s personnel. Another important tradition is that of Piping someone aboard the ship. This was originally used to give orders on warships when shouted orders could not have been heard. The piping was done by the ship s boatswain and therefore the instrument is known as the boatswain s call boatswain s Pipe or boatswain s call . 1. Norton tradition

The Norton tradition is an archaeological culture that developed in the Western Arctic along the Alaska n shore of the Bering Strait around 1000 BCE and lasted through about 800 CE. The Norton people used flake stone tool s like their predecessors, the Arctic small tool tradition , but they were more marine oriented and brought new technologies such as Oil lamp oil burning lamps and clay vessels into use. Norton people used both marine and land resources as part of their subsistence strategy. They hunted caribou and smaller mammal s as well as salmon and larger sea mammal s. Their settlements were occupied fairly permanently, as is evidenced by village sites which contain substantial dwellings. During summer months, small camps may have been used as temporary hunting and fishing locations, but the main dwelling place was maintained and returned to at the end of the hunting season. Stages The Norton tradition is divided into three stages of development. The first, the Choris Stage ca. 1000 500 BCE , consists of coastal sites containing fiber tempered pottery with linear stamping decorating the outsides of the vessels. There is much local variation in this stage, which may indicate relative isolation of communities. The second stage, Norton 500 BCE 800 CE, is distinguished by caribou hunting and fishing. There developed more refined pottery that included the Choris style stamps, but also included check stamps applied using ivory paddles. New technology included stone lamps, stone working, asymmetrical knives, and ground stone projectile points made from slate. The final stage, the Ipiutak Stage 1 800 CE , was a more artistically developed form of the Norton Culture. Their technology was less advanced no pottery, oil lamps, or slate artifacts , but they used elegant harpoon heads that were ornately adorned. Their art tradition consisted of mainly ivory carving s of animal ..., 2005 191 93. Pre Columbian North America DEFAULTSORT Norton Tradition Category Alaska Native ethnic ...   more details
