Son of C ndido Albuquerque and Maria Albuquerque, he was the nephew of Epit cio Pessoa Brazil s President from 1919 to 1922 , and brother of Jo o Pessoa , the Governor of Northern State of Paraiba . As a officer sent on a preparatory mission to Europe by Brazilian Army during First World War , he fought against the Triple Alliance 1882 Triple Alliance . In his subsequent career he had a great influence on the development of the Brazilian Army. To honor him, the Twelfth Cavalry Regiment of the Brazilian Army adopted his name. Military life He joined the Brazilian Army in 1903. From the first, he exhibited a great energy and potential.
