  1. Juggling pattern

original research date November 2009 refimprove date November 2009 A juggling pattern or juggling trick is a specific combination of manipulations of props while juggling usually toss juggling . At its simplest level, a juggling pattern can normally be defined as a sequence of various throws using a certain number of props. At a more advanced level, juggling patterns can involve depending on the props used different types of throw, flourishes, moves using different parts of the body such as the feet and head, bouncing props off surfaces, and even moves requiring two or more people. One system of notation that attempts to describe juggling tricks is siteswap siteswap notation , though even this is limited ... fundamental patterns used in juggling, upon which many other patterns are based. 1. Box (juggling)

Image Juggling trick 3b box.gif right frame An illustration of the box juggling pattern. The Box is a juggling pattern for 3 objects, most commonly balls or bean bag s. Two balls are dedicated to a specific hand with vertical throws, and the third ball is thrown horizontally between the two hands. Its siteswap is 4,2x 2x,4 . The box pattern can be seen as a Shower juggling synchronous shower , which direction is changed at every throw. Variations Inverse Box In Inverse Box, the siteswap stays the same and two balls 4s are still thrown in straight lines, but the ball thrown from the right hand is going up and down on the left side and vice versa. This results in rather fast hand movements, because after the right hand has thrown ball up on the left side, both hands need to rush to the right so that the left hand can throw the next ball on the right side. Outside Box Outside Box is same as the original version, except that the fast horizontal 2x ball is thrown outside the landing vertical ball and caught outside the next thrown vertical ball. For visual appeal, the 2x should thrown as vertical as possible very easily its flight path becomes too arced and the trick loses its visual appeal. Luke s Shuffle Luke s Shuffle is a variation on the box in which the throws that are normally thrown horizontally are thrown diagonally downward. In this pattern, the siteswap stays the same, but the 2x throw involves carrying the ball up over the rising 4 throw. The ball is then thrown from above the 4 diagonally downward to the opposite hand. The resulting downward throw is often known as a shuffle, giving the trick its name. This trick was invented by Luke Jugglestruck Luke Gravett in 1991 and shown to Charlie Dancey who included it in his book. ref name Dancey Dancey, Charlie. 1. Multiplex (juggling)

Image Multiplex333 33.gif thumb 3 ball Cascade with triplex Multiplexing is a form of toss juggling where more than one ball is in the hand at the time of the throw. The opposite, a squeeze catch, is when more than one ball is caught in the hand simultaneously on the same beat. If a multiplex throw were time reversed, it would be a squeeze catch. Terminology Number of props Multiplex throws are given different names depending on the number of balls used, for example a one ball throw with one ball held would be called a uniplex, a two ball throw would be called a duplex and a three ball throw, a triplex. A four and a five ball throw would be called a quadruplex and a quintuplex, respectively. Throw types Multiplex throws are generally grouped into different categories Stack, Split, Cut, and Slice. Stacked multiplex throws involve throwing both balls from one hand and catching them both in the same or other hand. Split multiplex throws, as the name suggests, involve throwing both balls from one hand, splitting them in the air, and catching them in separate hands. Cut multiplex throws involve throwing both balls to the same or other hand like a stacked multiplex but in a staggered fashion so the bottom ball of the duplex is caught, and re thrown before the top ball is caught. These are used in the Shower Explosion family of multiplex tricks. Sliced multiplex throws involve throwing ... down a key feature of juggling patterns the order in which the balls are thrown. 1. Havana (juggling)

Orphan date February 2009 Havana Turn left in Havana is a Passing juggling club passing pattern. There are 4 jugglers with a total of 12 clubs and the pattern is a type of rotating feed, much like a feed weave. Feeders do a 2 count everies while feedees do a 6 count. All passes are right hand tramline. There is always one feeder, but the feeder changes throughout. It is best described from the feeders point of view. When feeding, begin passing to your leftmost feedee. Make 5 passes in a windshield wiper fashion. After the first pass, feedee B and C begin to switch places in a clockwise motion. After the places have been exchanged and the feeder has given their 4th pass, B takes one additional step forward and turns counter clockwise see turn left , such that D will be the new feeder. Once A finishes their 5th pass, D immediately begins their feed cycle starting on their left. Note that A has no break between A s 5th pass and D s first pass. Some find that practicing a 4 person feed weave with a single feeder is a good warm up for this pattern. div style text align center File Havana juggling.png div Variations Phoenix Turn right in Phoenix is the same as Havana but the feeder starts with a pass to the rightmost feedee. Albuquerque Turn right in Albuquerque is the same as Havana, but mirrored, so all passes are with your left hands. Category Juggling patterns and tricks ...   more details

  1. Passing (juggling)

Image Juggling Clubs Manuel and Christoph Mitasch 11 club passing.jpg thumb 300px Manuel and Christoph Mitasch, world record holding club passers. Passing is the act of juggling between more than one person. It is a very social part of juggling and is very impressive to watch. It is possible to pass with any juggling prop, but ball passing is fairly rare and Clubs juggling club passing is very popular. This is because clubs have a handle, making it easy to catch a club which has been correctly thrown to you, and club passing looks more impressive. In general, two people face each other a few metres apart, each holding three clubs. On a signal, both start juggling in time with each other. To pass, each replaces a normal throw to themselves directly across to the other person. Both people do this at the same time, for example with their right hand, and then receive the incoming pass with their left hand. From the point of view of their pattern, the incoming pass behaves exactly as if they had thrown it themselves. Technique A good club pass comes from the side of your body and arrives at your partner after completing a single spin. It should arrive vertically upwards, slightly outside away from the centre of the body around 20cm although everyone has their own preference. This is where the pass is easiest to catch for the receiver. This also applies to left hand and right hand passes.
