Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Illness or Modern Women Lang de Krankheit oder Moderne Frauen is a play by the Austrian playwright Elfriede Jelinek . It was written in 1984 and published by Prometh Verlag in 1987 with an afterword by Regine Friedrich. The play deals with Jelinek s usual play on sexual power politics by focusing attention on a couple and what happens to the dynamics of their relationship when change occurs. The change, in this case, is when Carmilla, a housewife, becomes a vampire through her friend Emily. This only occurs after the birth of her daughter. She then leaves her husband, Dr. Benno Hundekoffer, and establishes a lesbian relationship with Emily. Like the rest of Jelinek s body of work, Krankheit offers a vitriolic and satirical view of the falsity and susceptibility concerning relationships. For an analysis of the lesbianism and gender play in the piece, see Leanne Dawson s article, The Transe Femme in Elfriede Jelinek s Krankheit oder Moderne Frauen , in Smith Prei, Carrie, and Politis, Cordula eds. Integrated Management of Childhood Illness of IMCI is a systematic approach to children s health which focuses on the whole child. http www.who.int child adolescent health integr.htm This means not only focusing on curative care but also on prevention of disease. The approach was developed by UNICEF United Nations Children s Fund and the World Health Organization . The Inequalities of Child Health Although the annual number of deaths among children less than 5 years old has decreased by almost a third since the 1970s, this reduction has not been evenly distributed throughout the world. According to the 1999 World Health Report, children in low to middle income countries are 10 times more likely to die before reaching age 5 than children living in the industrialized world. In 1998, more than 50 countries still had childhood mortality rates of over 100 per 1,000 live births. Every year more than 10 million children in these countries die before they reach their fifth birthday. Seven in 10 of these deaths are due to acute respiratory infections mostly pneumonia , diarrhea, measles, malaria, or malnutrition and often to a combination of these conditions Rationale for an Evidence based Syndromic Approach to Case Management Many well known prevention and treatment strategies have already proven effective for saving young lives. Childhood vaccinations have successfully reduced deaths due to measles. Oral rehydration therapy has contributed to a major reduction in diarrhoea deaths. Effective antibiotics have saved millions of children with pneumonia. Prompt treatment of malaria has allowed more children to recover and lead healthy lives. Even modest improvements in breastfeeding practices have reduced childhood deaths. Multiple issues refimprove August 2008 original research July 2011 synthesis July 2011 Mental illness has appeared frequently as a major theme or background element in film . Characteristics A striking feature of the overwhelming majority of fictional as distinct from documentary film documentary film presentations of psychiatric disorders is their gross distortion of the phenomena ostensibly portrayed. The films that do most closely adhere to psychiatric reality include some that are based on actual persons, such as two France French films starring Isabelle Adjani as Camille Claudel and as Ad le Hugo, daughter of Victor Hugo The Story of Adele H. . On the other hand, some films that purport to recount authentic psychiatric cases have raised doubts. Thus, psychiatrist Herbert Spiegel , who consulted in the Sybil book Sybil case, has stated the view that Shirley Ardell Mason Sybil had been manipulated by her Freudian psychiatrist, Dr. Cornelia B. The Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program EEOICP was passed in 2000 and is designed to compensate individuals who worked in nuclear weapons production and as a result of occupational exposures contracted certain illnesses. The law was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on December 7, 2000. Executive Order 13179 Executive Order 13179 states the following blockquote Since World War II, hundreds of thousands of men and women have served their Nation in building its nuclear defense. In the course of their work, they overcame previously unimagined scientific and technical challenges. Thousands of these courageous Americans, however, paid a high price for their service, developing disabling or fatal illnesses as a result of exposure to beryllium, ionizing radiation, and other hazards unique to nuclear weapons production and testing. Too often, these workers were neither adequately protected from, nor informed of, the occupational hazards to which they were exposed. blockquote blockquote Existing workers compensation programs have failed to provide for the needs of these workers and their families. Federal workers compensation programs have generally not included these workers. Further, because of long latency periods, the uniqueness of the hazards to which they were exposed, and inadequate exposure data, many of these individuals have been unable to obtain State workers compensation benefits. unreferenced date March 2011 Many films have portrayed mental illness or used it as a backdrop for other themes. Here is a list of some of these films, sorted by illness, regardless of whether the disorder is portrayed accurately or not. For example, although 50 First Dates presents a case of anterograde amnesia , the type depicted does not really exist. In particular, owing to the nature of drama, extreme and florid manifestations of any given disorder tend to prevail over the more subtle ones typical of the average person with that disorder. For example, people with agoraphobia are typically portrayed in drama as recluses who never or almost never leave their homes in reality, this is rare and extreme, not typical, among the agoraphobic population. inc film Dementia Alzheimer s disease En s ng f r Martin A Song For Martin 2001 Iris film Iris 2001 De Zaak Alzheimer 2003 Away from Her 2006 The Notebook 2004 Thanmatra 2005 U Me Aur Hum 2008 Before We Forget 2011 Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2011 A Moment to Remember A Moment To Remember 2004 Amnesia Anterograde amnesia A person with anterograde amnesia is unable to form new memories.
