Biography He was brother of the Cardinal Catholicism Cardinal Gianvincenzo Gonzaga , nephew of Cardinal Ercole Gonzaga and of Francesco III Gonzaga , Duke of Mantua . He was born in Palermo where his father Ferrante Gonzaga , count of Guastalla , was Viceroy. When Ferrante died in 1557 Ercole Gonzaga became guardian and the young Mantuan humanist and future Jesuit Antonio Possevino became tutor to the brothers. Francesco Gonzaga a member of the Academy of the Vatican Nights . As protonotary apostolic he obtained from Pius IV the Abbey of Acqua Nera, and on 26 February 1562 was created Cardinal of San Nicola in Carcere . Francesco Gonzaga appointed as bishop of Mantua in 1565. He died in Rome the following year. He also had down Syndrome. Biography Born at Mantua , he was the second son of Ludovico II Gonzaga , marquess of Mantua, and Barbara of Brandenburg . He was appointed as cardinal by Pope Pius II aged seventeen, just after the Council of Mantua . He received the title of Santa Maria Nuova . He became bishop of Brixen in 1466 and bishop of Mantua two years later. In 1476 he was appointed as bishop of Bologna . In 1477 he had an illegitimate son, Francesco, who died in 1511. In 1479 1480 he housed in his court at Mantua Angelo Poliziano , who wrote there the Fabula of Orpheus . Like other members of the family, he collected ancient findings and gems.     Guido Gonzaga 1290 22 September 1369 was an Italian condottiero . Biography He was elected podest of Mantua in 1328, as well as of Reggio Emilia . In 1335 he became lord of the latter city. In 1360 he became the second capitano del popolo in Mantua , having been appointed to that position at an old age 70 , together with his son Ugolino, who most likely held the effective power until his assassination 14 October 1362 by the brothers Francesco and Ludovico II Gonzaga Ludovico . He was in charge in 1368 when Mantua was occupied by Barnab Visconti , although the city was freed through the intervention of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor emperor Charles IV . With the peace of Bologna , Mantua obtained the lands of Cavriana , Castiglione delle Stiviere , Solferino , Volta Mantovana Volta , Medole and Ceresara .
