    Thomas Dix Hincks 1767 Dublin , Ireland 1857, Belfast , Ireland was an Ireland Irish oriental studies orientalist and naturalist . Hincks was educated at Trinity College, Dublin Trinity College , Dublin. He was ordained a Presbysterian minister and worked at the Old Presbyterian Church on Princes Street in Cork city Cork . After teaching in the Royal Cork Institution Cork Institution , which he founded, he taught in Fermoy , County Cork. In 1821 he was appointed Master of the Classical School at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution Belfast Academical Institution , in 1822 becoming Professor of Oriental Languages. He gained a Doctorate in Laws from Glasgow University in 1834. He wrote A Greek English Lexicon. Containing all the words that occur in the books used in most schools and collegiate courses London Whittaker & Co. Dublin and edited the Munster Agricultural Magazine in Cork. Hincks was the father of Edward Hincks , an orientalist and clergyman, and Francis Hincks a Canadian politician. He was a founder member of the Belfast Natural History Society and a Member of the Royal Irish Academy .     Carroll Clark Hincks November 30, 1889 September 30, 1964 was a United States federal courts federal judge in the United States . Hincks was born in Andover, Massachusetts . He attended Yale College and Yale Law School . From 1915 to 1931, he practiced as a lawyer in Connecticut first in New Haven, Connecticut New Haven , then in Waterbury, Connecticut Waterbury , except for two years as a U.S. Army artillery officer during World War I . In 1931, Hincks was named by President of the United States President Herbert Hoover as a judge of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut . Hincks served on that court for 22 years, including a term as Chief Judge from 1948 to 1953. In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower promoted Hincks to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit , succeeding Thomas Walter Swan . Hincks took office under a recess appointment on October 3, 1953 and was confirmed by the United States Senate Senate on on February 9, 1954. Hincks took senior status in 1959. He died in 1964.
