    Frank Lillie Pollack , 1876 1957 was an early Canadian science fiction writer. He was born in Ontario, Canada. Author of the short story Finis short story Finis , published in the June 1906 issue of Argosy magazine The Argosy magazine, Pollack s work has been anthologized several times. Briefly, Finis is the story of a new star that is discovered which turns out to be a new, hotter sun. He served as a United States Congress man from 1919 to 1921. He was elected by the people of Illinois to the United States Senate in 1926, but the Senate never allowed him to take his seat. He first ran for the Republican Party United States Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in 1920. In that first year of suffrage , women s votes were counted separately from men s. He was beating William B. McKinley by 27,000 votes after the male votes were counted, but once the female votes were counted McKinley had won by 11,000 votes. McKinley went on to win the general election. In 1921, Smith became the chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission , which oversaw utilities in the state. He prepared to run again for the Senate in 1926. At the time, Illinois had no campaign finance laws. Smith collected donations from several wealthy executives who ran public utilities, including 125,000 from Samuel Insull . He used this money to defeat McKinley in the Republican primary held in the summer of 1926. Smith went on to win the general election held in November of that year, although Julius Rosenwald offered him 550,000 of Sears, Roebuck & Company stock to withdraw. By the age of 17 he was a musician playing pedal steel guitar in bars and beer halls around Wisconsin. In 1978 Anderson moved to San Francisco and worked as a West Coast musician for country western performers such as Rose Maddox . As a session musician in the 1990s for producer Butch Vig s Smart Studios he played accordion and pedal steel guitar on recordings for grunge and punk rock bands such as Killdozer band Twelve Point Buck , 1991 and Paw band Dragline album , 1994 .
