She was launched in Saint Malo in 1780. Her main duties were escorting convoys between Ile de R , Nantes and Brest, France Brest . In this capacity, she captured a british privateer on 16 June. She was wrecked on 5 August 1781 near Gl nan islands , off Concarneau , when she ran aground due to a navigation error of the pilot. The crew was saved, but in spite of efforts to refloat her, she became a total loss. Her guns were found in 1978, and a now on display in Concarneau. In 1788, she accidentally ran aground and was refloated the next year. In February 1791, she took a station in Domingo, from which she returned in October 1792, ferrying Philibert Fran ois Rouxel de Blanchelande Blanchelande to be tried in France. In September 1793, she was renamed Charente and manned by the crew of French frigate N r ide 1779 N r ide . She took part in the Croisi re du Grand Hiver and in the Exp dition d Irlande , where she shadowed French ship Trajan 1792 Trajan . In 1798, she was used to ferry detainees to Cayenne. In late March, under commander Bruillac, she battled a British division off Gironde. Capricieuse was lost on 31 October 1799, when she ran aground at the entrance of Blavet river.
