  1. Carl Friedrich Richard Förster

Carl Friedrich Richard F rster 15 November 1825 7 July 1902 was a German ophthalmologist born in the town of Lissa today Leszno , Poland . He received his medical doctorate in 1849, and for most of his career was associated with the University of Breslau . Two of his assistants at Breslau were Hermann Wilbrand 1851 1935 and Hermann Rudolph Aubert 1826 1892 . F rster is remembered primarily for his tests of visual acuity particularly research of indirect vision and visual field boundaries. From these tests, the eponymous terms of F rster perimeter and F rster s shift are derived. A F rster perimeter was an instrument used to measure an individual s field of vision. He also devised a specialized photometer to determine the smallest amount of light that will permit an object to be visible. In 1871 F rster defined the difference between negative and positive scotoma blind spot if vision of the scotoma region is a void, it is a negative scotoma, and if the scotoma is an area of darkness lightness or composed of hallucinatory patterns, it is called a positive scotoma. 1. Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize

The Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize for Applications of Mathematics is a mathematics award, granted jointly by the International Mathematical Union and the German Mathematical Society for outstanding mathematical contributions that have found significant applications outside of mathematics . The award receives its name from the Germans German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss . With its premiere in 2006, it is to be awarded every fourth year, at the International Congress of Mathematicians . The previous laureate was presented with a medal and a cash purse of Euro EUR 10,000 funded by the International Congress of Mathematicians 1998 budget surplus. The official announcement of the prize took place on 30 April 2002, the 225th anniversary of the birth of Gauss. The prize was developed specifically to give recognition to mathematician s while mathematicians have an impact on the world outside of their field, their studies are often not recognized. The prize aims to honour those who have made contributions and impacts in the fields of business , technology , or even day to day life. He obtained a doctorate from the University of G ttingen in 1888, and from 1900 to 1913 he was professor of theoretical physics at the University of Heidelberg . In 1893 he discovered that a steady electric field applied to certain birefringence birefringent materials causes the refractive index to vary, approximately in proportion to the strength of the field. The coefficient of proportionality is of the order of Val 10 e 10 u volt V sup 1 sup to Val 10 e 12 u volt V sup 1 sup . This phenomenon is now called the Pockels effect . 1. Carl Friedrich Wenzel

Carl Friedrich Wenzel Circa ca . 1740 February 26, 1793 was a German chemist and Metallurgy metallurgist who determined the reaction rates of various chemicals, establishing, for example, that the amount of metal that dissolves in an acid is Proportionality mathematics proportional to the concentration of acid in the solution . Thus he was the first person to give the notion of equivalent weight and to publish a table of equivalent weights of acids and bases. Later Jeremias Benjamin Richter produced a larger table of equivalent weights. Wenzel, whose first name is also spelled Karl , was born at Dresden in 1740. Disliking his father s trade of bookbinding , for which he was intended, he left home in 1755, and after taking lessons in surgery and chemistry at Amsterdam , became a ship s surgeon in the Netherlands Dutch service. In 1766, tired of sea life, he went to study chemistry at Leipzig , and afterwards devoted himself to metallurgy and assaying at his native place with much success.
