ErnstFriedrich Wilhelm Klinkerfues 29 March 1827, Hofgeismar &ndash 28 January 1884, G ttingen was a German astronomer . Life Klinkerfues was born in Hofgeismar , the son of army doctor Johann Reinhard Klinkerfues and his wife Sabine. After the early death of his parents, he was brought up by relatives, and after attending high school qualified as a surveyor in Kassel . In this capacity he subsequently worked on the new Frankfurt Kassel railway. From 1847 to 1851 Klinkerfues studied mathematics and astronomy at the University of Marburg . He then became an assistant to Carl Friedrich Gauss at G ttingen Observatory , where he completed his Ph.D. with a thesis on orbit calculations of double stars . After Gauss death in 1855, the mathematician W. E. Weber replaced him as director, but Klinkerfues was to be temporarily responsible for the observatory from 1861. Klinkerfues discovered 6 comets, and in 1860 led an expedition to Spain to observe a solar eclipse . He was finally appointed director for practical astronomy at G ttingen in 1868. However, the role of Klinkerfues section of the observatory was solely to deal with practical work, the theoretical work being placed in the hands of Ernst Christian Julius Schering Ernst Schering . Klinkerfues was, like his predecessor, allowed to live in the eastern wing of the observatory, but the division of the observatory s organisation between the two teams was to be a source of constant conflict. In his 1871 book Theoretische Astronomie Klinkerfues described how the orbits of celestial bodies in the solar system could be calculated. Hans Daniel Ludwig Friedrich Hassenpflug February 26, 1794 October 15, 1862 , German people German politician statesman , was born at Hanau in Hesse . He studied law at university of G ttingen G ttingen , graduated in 1816, and took his seat as Assessor in the judicial chamber of the board of government Regierungskollegium at Kassel , of which his father Johann Hassenpflug was also a member, in 1821 he was nominated by the new elector, William II, Elector of Hesse William II , fustisrat councillor of justice in 1832 he became Ministerialrat and reporter Referent to the ministry of Hesse Kassel , and in May of the same year was appointed successively minister of justice and of the interior. It was from this moment that he became conspicuous in the constitutional struggles of Germany. The reactionary system introduced by the William I, Elector of Hesse elector William I had broken down before the revolutionary movements of 1830, and in 1831 Hesse had received a constitution. This development was welcome neither to the elector nor to the other German governments, and Hassenpflug deliberately set to work to reverse it. In doing so he gave the lie to his own early promise for he had been a conspicuous member of the revolutionary Burschen schaft at G ttingen , and had taken part as a volunteer in the War of Liberation . It is unnecessary to enquire into the causes of the change. Hassenpfiug by training and tradition was a strait laced official he was also a first rate lawyer, and his naturally arbitrary temper had from the first displayed itself in an attitude of overbearing independence towards his colleagues and even towards the elector. To such a man constitutional restrictions were intolerable, and from the moment he came into power he set to work to override them, by means of press censorship, legal quibbles, unjustifiable use of the electoral prerogatives, or frank supersession ... lb Hans Daniel Hassenpflug sv Ludwig Hassenpflug ... more details
