  1. Fusion torch

A fusion torch is a concept for utilizing the high temperature plasma of a Fusion power fusion reactor to break apart other materials especially waste materials and convert them into a few reusable and saleable elements. It was invented in 1968 by Bernard J. Eastlund and William C. Gough while they were program managers of the controlled thermonuclear research program of the United States Atomic Energy Commission AEC . The basic concept was to impinge the plasma leaking from fusion reactors onto solids or liquids, vaporizing, dissociating and ionizing the materials, then separating the resulting elements into separate bins for collection. Other applications of fusion plasmas such as generation of UV and optical light, and generation of hydrogen fuel, were also described in their associated 1969 paper. In the paper Eastlund and Gough defined three traps that could hamper the advancement of mankind Population food Entropy resources, energy, pollution War human needs and behavior They stated, referring to entropy quote The use of the fusion torch in conjunction with controlled fusion power offers a potential solution to the entropy trap in materials. i.e. man s exhaustion of nature s stored resources. Citation needed date July 2011 In terms of energy needs they estimated the following quote An all electric city of 10,000,000 people, by the year 2000 will need 140,000 megawatts of electrical capacity. ref Energy Resources, Report to the Committee on Natural Resources, publication 1000 D, Washington National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, 1962 . ref If just 10,000 megawatts were used in a fusion torch then somewhere between 2,700 and 27,000 tons of material could be processed per day. Citation needed date July 2011 They also speculated that the fusion torch concept would be useful for the separation of uranium from reactor fuel element material. 1. Helium fusion

Helium fusion is a kind of nuclear fusion , with the atomic nucleus nuclei involved being helium . The fusion of helium 4 nuclei alpha particle s is known as the triple alpha process , because fusion of just two helium nuclei only produces beryllium 8, which is unstable and breaks back down to two helium nuclei with a half life of 1× 10 sup 16 sup to 2.6× 10 sup 16 sup seconds. If the core temperature of a star exceeds 100 million kelvin s 100 megakelvins, 8.6 KeV , as may happen in the later phase of red giant s and red supergiant s, then a third helium nucleus has a significant chance of fusing with the beryllium 8 nucleus before it breaks down, thus forming carbon 12. Depending upon the temperature and density, an additional helium nucleus may fuse with carbon 12 to form oxygen 16, and at very high temperatures, additional fusions of helium to oxygen and heavier nuclei may occur see alpha process . The fusion of helium 3 with itself or with helium 4 occurs during the fusion of hydrogen in main sequence stars see proton proton chain , and is not ordinarily referred to as helium fusion. 1. California fusion

mergefrom California cuisine date October 2011 California fusion is fusion cuisine inspired by culinary traditions from around the world that are combined in inventive and delicious new ways. Fusion cuisine typically emphasizes natural fruits and vegetables and combines them in a way that is often organic, natural and fresh. Fresh Ingredients Essential From north to south, the pleasant climate and long growing season encourage a light, summery approach to cooking, especially when tomatoes , avocados , citrus , herbs and lettuces are growing on doorsteps practically year round. It makes sense that the temperate state where so much of the country s fresh produce is grown had begun to obsess about fresh ingredients. California s abundance allows cooks to paint with a very broad palette. Such a variety of ingredients results in a cuisine that is more about a general style than specific chefs, who understand that that your dish is only as good as your ingredients, so the emphasis is on freshness, simplicity, locality. Origin of the Term Thanks to its history and geography, California might even be called the first fusion cuisine. Citation needed date June 2009 Immigrants from Mexico and Asia , not to mention the others who were attracted to the state for the promises of riches, a better life or a more temperate climate bring their own local flavor and style to the local melting pot in the cuisine that they prepare. Like so many other California innovations like movies and skateboarding , this kind of cooking has gradually spread to the rest of the country. Citation needed date June ... 1. Heat fusion

Distinguish2 fusion welding , which applies generically to a variety of processes, especially in metals Heat fusion sometimes called heat welding or simply fusion is a welding process used to join two different pieces of a thermoplastic . This process involves heating both pieces simultaneously and pressing them together. The two pieces then cool together and form a permanent bond. When done properly, the two pieces become indistinguishable from each other. Dissimilar plastics can result in improper bonding. ref ASTM Standard D2657, 2007, Standard Practice for Heat Fusion Joining of Polyolefin Pipe and Fittings , ASTM International, West Conshohocken, PA, 2007, DOI 10.1520 D2657 07, www.astm.org. ref ref ASTM Standard F2620, 2009e1, Standard Practice for Heat Fusion Joining of Polyethylene Pipe and Fittings , ASTM International, West Conshohocken, PA, 2009, DOI 10.1520 F2620 09e1, www.astm.org. ref Applications This process is commonly used in plastic pressure pipe systems to join a pipe and fitting together, or to join a length of pipe directly to another length of pipe. Generally, polyolefins such as polypropylene , polyethylene , and polybutylene and PVC are used for these applications. Types Heat fusion is usually performed using one of two methods.
