Tombs of this type are covered with a round earth mound and contain a single chamber where the entrance area merges with the burial area itself, simply through a slight change in the alignment of the stone slab walls. It commemorates a notable artillery officer from the Suomenlinna fortress , who later moved to the mainland Helsinki proper, gaining great repute as a philanthropist . Location outside church grounds The actual spot was chosen as it was the location where he habitually rested on his daily constitutionals, then within Edboms decorative garden, and expressed a wish to be buried. The Walhalla orden took these wishes to King Gustaf III and gained permission to bury him outside church grounds, when he was examining the troops at Parola, during his visit to Finland. The order s members were also the ones who carried his casket into the ground. In Helsinki, the grave monument is exceptional in that it isn t within a church yard. At the site of Helsinki s first church, the gravestone of a single tradesman is all that has been retained to designate the spot, but Freemason s Grave differs in that it was intended to be a solitary grave from the start. Another similar case is the urn of poetess Katri Vala which is set at a spot adjunct to her eponymous park in the S rn inen neighbourhood. Unreferenced date December 2009 Tone s Grave , often referred to as Bodenstown churchyard , was written by Thomas Osborne Davis Irish politician Thomas Davis 1814 1845 , the Young Ireland leader, and published first in their newspaper The Nation . It was written following his visit to the grave of Wolfe Tone in Bodenstown , County Kildare co. Kildare c. 1843 when he found Tone s grave unmarked but guarded by a local blacksmith who would allow nobody to set foot on it. The song mourns the failure of the United Irishmen and the loss of leaders like Wolfe Tone but hints at the impending awakening of Irish nationalism much hoped for by the Young Ireland movement.
