Unreferenced date December 2009 Context date October 2009 A gear shaper is a machine tool for Gear cutting cutting the teeth of internal or external gear s. The name shaper relates to the fact that the cutter engages the part on the forward stroke and pulls away from the part on the return stroke, just like the clapper box on a Planer metalworking planer shaper. The cutting tool is also gear shaped having the same pitch as the gear to be cut. However number of cutting teeth must be less than that of the gear to be cut for internal gears. For external gears the number of teeth on the cutter is limited only by the size of the shaping machine. For larger gears the blank is usually gashing gashed to the rough shape to make shaping easier. Unreferenced date June 2008 Gear manufacturing refers to the making of gears . Materials The majority of gears are composed of carbon and low alloy steels, including carburised steels. Among the carburised steels used in gears are 1018, 1524, 4026, 4118, 4320, 4620, 4820, 8620 and 9310. The intended gear use will dictate the material used in its creation. For example gears to be used in food processing are made of stainless steels or nickel base alloys because of their corrosion resistance. A gear case , also known as a chain case , is an enclosure for the bicycle chain and sprocket assemblages commonly employed by utility bicycles . It serves to protect the chain from mud and dirt and tends to fully enclose the drive train. It may also contain an oil bath to keep the chain lubrication lubricated . Modern examples are usually moulding process moulded in plastic . Similar devices may be found in connection with chains used on larger vehicles and machinery. This Train , also known as This Train Is Bound for Glory , is a traditional United States American gospel music gospel song first recorded in 1925. Although its origins are unknown, the song was relatively popular during the 1920s as a religious tune, and it became a gospel hit in the late 1930s for singer guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe . ref name AllMusicTharpe cite web url http www.allmusic.com artist sister rosetta tharpe p131146 biography last Ankeny first Jason title Sister Rosetta Tharpe Biography publisher Allmusic accessdate 2012 03 26 ref After switching from acoustic to electric guitar, Tharpe released a more secular version of the song in the early 1950s, a recording that is considered one of the precursors of rock n roll . The song s popularity was also due in part to the influence of folklore folklorists John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax . The Lomaxes discovered the song while making field recordings in the South in the early 1930s and included it in folk song anthologies that were published in 1934 and 1960. unreferenced date June 2007 The gear shift is the part of the gearbox which has the shift forks and allows the contact from the driver to the synchronization. Most of the time they are so much like the gear counter plus the reverse gear. And they make it possible to choose the geargear ratio and to switch this in or out. The invention of the gear shift is attributed to Karl Benz . These are the parts for which it is possible to make an automation. Further these parts can be designed so compact so that it is also possible to build a very modular transmission mechanics transmission with less weight. The benefit of the compact build of the shifting is not only the gain of modulation and less weight but also the time during the production and space in the whole Powertrain drivetrain . Depending on the space around the whole drivetrain and type of car, for automatisation a hydraulic , pneumatic or electric actuator can be used. For personal cars, a hydraulic or electric actuator is most often used. Further, such a system also needs an electronic application. unref date December 2011 A Jacking gear also known as a Turning gear is a device placed on the main engine shaft of a marine vessel . Its main purpose is to rotate the shaft and associated machinery such as reduction gear s and main Steam turbine turbines , to ensure uniform cool down. This process also prevents the shaft from warping when a ship is preparing to achieve maneuvering status. Additionally, the jacking gear s assistance in rotation can be used when inspecting the shaft, reduction gears, bearings, and turbines. As an auxiliary function, the jacking gear also helps to maintain a protective oil membrane at all shaft journal bearing s. Motor and drivetrain The jacking gear Electric motor motor is designed to rotate the shaft at approximately 1 10rpm. Most jacking gear motors are rated at 5hp. The jacking gear motor assembly applies power and torque to the reduction gear by a flexible coupling or clutch that can freely engage and disengage to the high pressure pinion driving gear . Engaging is accomplished by means of a simple lever. Some newer propulsion arrangements utilize an automatic control system located in the engine room. Jacking gears often feature a lock to prevent the shaft from turning during current or tide changes or when being towed. Safety When a jacking gear is engaged, a sign must be posted on throttle equipment to prevent steam from being admitted to the main turbines. Admitting steam with it engaged will result in its destruction.
