Despite the name, its cathedral is located not in Monmouth but in Newport the Newport Cathedral Cathedral Church of St Woolos . Reasons for not choosing the title of Newport included the existence of a Catholic Bishop of Newport until 1916. This apparent anomaly arose in 1921 when the diocese was created from the eastern part of the Diocese of Llandaff with no location for the cathedral yet chosen. Various options were being considered, such as restoring Tintern Abbey , building from scratch on Ridgeway Hill in Newport, and the eventual choice upgrading St. Woolos, then a parish church in the meantime the new diocese, as it covers more or less the territory of the historic counties of Wales county of Monmouthshire historic Monmouth , was named the Diocese of Monmouth . Prior to 1921 the area had been the archdeaconry of Monmouth. It is headed by the Bishop of Monmouth , at present the Dominic Walker bishop Rt Revd Dominic Walker OGS elected in 2003 . 1. The Monmouth Journal

Wikify date November 2011 Orphan date February 2009 The Monmouth Journal is a weekly newspaper based in Red Bank, New Jersey . The newspaper covers nine towns in the northern Monmouth County area, including Red Bank, Middletown, Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, Highlands and Atlantic Highlands. The newspaper is owned by The Monmouth Journal, LLC. The managing editor is Gary Chapman and the general manager is Susan Eckenfelder Paviluk. Chapman was an educator for many years, ending his career in the public school system of Manasquan as a guidance counselor. He began planning The Monmouth Journal in 2003. Paviluk worked for both daily and weekly newspapers in graphic design and layout before joining The Monmouth Journal in April 2004, just before its launch in May of that year. The Monmouth Journal has a weekly distribution of 10,000 copies, nearly doubling the circulation of its closest competitor, The Two River Times. Distribution The Monmouth Journal is a free weekly newspaper that is distributed at 185 locations in the Two River area of northern Monmouth County. The Two River area encompasses those towns that border, or are near, the Shrewsbury and Navesink rivers. The area is considered affluent, with Rumson, Monmouth Beach, Fair Haven and Little Silver among the wealthy towns of the region. The Monmouth Journal does not pretend to cover 20 or 25 towns, like many weekly newspapers in the region do. Instead, it concentrates solely on the nine towns it serves, blanketing those towns with the paper every Friday, and offering its advertisers the best exposure available for a weekly publication in the area. Recently, The Monmouth Journal has surpassed it rival, The Two River Times, in advertising inches every week, despite the fact that the Two River Times has been publishing for just under 20 years, while The Monmouth Journal is only under 5 years old. 1. Thomas of Monmouth

Thomas of Monmouth was a monk who lived in a Benedictine monastery in Norwich , in Norfolk , England during the 12th century. Career Thomas of Monmouth was the author of The Life and Miracles of William 1173 , an anti semitic polemic which accused the Jews of murdering a young boy named William of Norwich , whose body was claimed to be found on Mousehold Heath , Norwich , in 1144. Monmouth claimed that a Jew told him that every year there is an international council of Jews where they choose from where to kill a child by Easter. This is the earliest recorded ritual murder accusation against the Jews. Thomas of Monmoth unsuccessfully tried to get William of Norwich canonized as a saint. Monmouth s account helped inflame anti semitic sentiment in England, resulting in the eventual expulsion of the Jews from England in 1290.
