GeorgeAugustus painted riverscapes of the Thames , moonlit landscapes, seascapes and views of Kent , Wales and elsewhere. After having four children, George and Caroline moved to Barnes, London , within a stone s throw of the Thames, where they lived for more than fifty years. He was also a critic and busy literary reviewer, in magazines such as the Argosy , the Fortnightly Review and the Academy and essayist for The Nation . He published some substantial poems, on Arthurian themes in particular. The theological writer and biographer William Henry Simcox was his brother, and the activist Edith Jemima Simcox his sister. The Simcoxes were well known and well connected in English intellectual circles Edith was a friend of George Eliot s , and William wrote the first major biography of Barnabe Barnes , the famous 16th century poet and patron of William Shakespeare . He represented Brockville electoral district Brockville in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1894 to 1898 as a Liberal Party of Ontario Liberal member. He was born in Brockville, Ontario Brockville , the son of Alonzo B. Dana who served three terms as mayor of Brockville. Dana served on the town council, as a water commissioner and also was mayor from 1885 to 1886. He served in the local militia and was a director of the Canadian Central Railway.
