GeorgeEdward Cire September 29, 1922 &ndash May 5, 1985 was a United States federal judge . Born in Houston, Texas , Cire received a Bachelor of Science B.S. from St. Edward s University in 1943 and was in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II , from 1943 to 1946. He received an LL.B. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1948, entering private practice in Houston from 1949 to 1950. He was again in the Marine Corps from 1950 to 1951, returning to his private practice from 1951 to 1964. He was a judge on the 165th District Court, Houston, Texas from 1964 to 1976, and was then an associate justice of the 14th Court of Civil Appeals in Houston from 1976 to 1979. On February 13, 1979, Cire was nominated by President Jimmy Carter to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas created by 92 Stat. 1629. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 10, 1979, and received his commission on May 11, 1979. Cire served in that capacity until his death, in Houston. unreferenced date May 2011 GeorgeEdward Perine 9 July 1837 &ndash 3 February 1885 was a noted artist, engraver, and publisher. In 1852, he began engraving for Thomas Doney in New York and in 1856 1858 for W.W. Rice, a line and bank note engraver. He engraved in mezzotint a large plate, entitled The Signing of the Compact in the Cabin of the Mayflower, before he was nineteen years old. He was employed by New York engravers in 1858 1860 and in 1860 began engraving on his own and soon established a successful business in New York City. He mainly did portrait engraving and though he had many engravers in his employ, it is said that he finished every plate himself. Among his best known productions were the engravings entitled The Better Land , dedicated to the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow , published in 1866 The Good Part , published a few years later and a series of portraits on steel of distinguished men which appeared in The Eclectic Magazine . Of the books published by him, the most noteworthy were History of the Fifty First Congress illustrated , and A History of New York City , by Benson John Lossing , LL.D., the historian. GeorgeEdward Perine was born July 9, 1837, at South Orange, New Jersey , a son of Joseph and Sarah Decker Perine, and a descendant of Daniel Perrin , The Huguenot . Born at present day Elkton, Maryland , Mitchell completed preparatory studies and graduated from the medical department of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia on June 5, 1805. He practiced medicine in Elkton from 1806 to 1812. He was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1808, and served as member of the executive council of Maryland, and as president of the council from 1809 to 1812. He served in the War of 1812 with the Third Maryland Artillery, and resigned June 1, 1821. Mitchell was elected from the Maryland s 6th congressional district sixth district of Maryland to the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Congresses, and served from March 4, 1823 to March 3, 1827. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1826, and was an unsuccessful candidate for the governorship in 1829. He was elected from the sixth district as a Jacksonian to the Twenty first and Twenty second Congresses and served from December 7, 1829, until his death in Washington, D.C.. He is interred in the Congressional Cemetery .
