  1. K. M. George (politician)

    K. M. George 1919 1976 was the founder of the political party Kerala Congress in India . He was born at Vazhakulam , Muvattupuzha . K. M. George began his political career in the Indian National Congress under A. J. John, Anaparambil and was widely accepted as an excellent speaker and a charismatic leader. Following the death of P. T. Chacko, Pullolil in 1964 under turbulent circumstances, 15 MLAs under the leadership of K. M. George withdrew their support to the Congress party and, sitting as a separate group in the Assembly, brought down the R. Sankar ministry and formulated a new political party called the Kerala Congress under his chairmanship at Kottayam. K. M. George belonged to that extinct genre of politicians who tried to uphold the integrity of the nation with their strong intellectual capacity. He expired on 11 Dec. 1976 and his untimely death has inflicted huge damage to the Kerala Congress. After his death the party has been faced with so many splits and divisions which in fact reduced it to mere factions and the same now appears to be groping in the dark, forcing so many to lose their HOPE. K. M. George was married to Martha Padinjarekkara and was survived by five children, K. Mathew George, K. Annie George, K. George Varghese, K. Francis George , and K. Mary George. His son Francis George is a politician and had represented the constituency of Idukki Lok Sabha constituency twice in the Parliament of India. References http cs.nyu.edu kandathi p t chacko.html K.
