She has illustrated two books by Charles Craib, Geophytic Pelargoniums 2001 and Grass Aloes in the South African Veld 2005 . She also contributed to the biographic section in the book South African Botanical Art Peeling back the Petals 2001 . She was born in Kenya , the youngest of three daughters of Thomas Roy Condy and Phyllis Mary Poulton, and spent her childhood in Uganda where her love for Africa and its plants developed. She received her training at Middlesex Polytechnic in London as a natural history illustrator and obtained a Master of Arts postgraduate Master of Arts degree from the Royal College of Art for a project entitled British Poisonous Plants . Nicholas Condy or Cundy 1793 &ndash 8 January 1857 was an English landscape painter. Condy is supposed to have been born at Torpoint , in the then parish of Antony East, Cornwall , in 1793, but no entry of his baptism is to be found in the register kept at Antony, Cornwall Antony Church. He was gazetted to the 43rd Monmouthshire Regiment of Foot 43rd Regiment as an Ensign rank ensign on 9 May 1811, and served in the Peninsular War Peninsula he became a Lieutenant on 24 February 1818, and was thenceforth on half pay during the remainder of his life. From 1818 he devoted his attention to art, and became a professional painter at Plymouth . He chiefly produced small Watercolor painting water colours on tinted paper, about eight inches by five inches, which he sold at prices ranging from fifteen Shilling United Kingdom shilling s to one Guinea British coin guinea each. Between 1830 and 1845 he exhibited two landscapes at the Royal Academy , four at the British Institution , and one at Suffolk Street Gallery . His best known painting is entitled The Old Hall at Cotehele on a Rent day. He brought out a work called Cotehele, on the Banks of the Tamar, the ancient seat of the Right Hon. the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, by N. Condy, with a descriptive account written by the Rev. F. V. J. Gillian Stroudley n e Thain 1925 1992 was an England English painter and printmaker. Life and work Gillian Stroudley was born Gillian Thain in Epsom, Surrey in 1925. She studied painting and wood engraving at St. Martin s School of Art between 1945 1951 under the supervision of Gertrude Hermes and Clifford Webb. After graduating, she worked as an art teacher for the Inner London Education Authority and also as a freelance textile designer. An extremely talented printmaker, her etchings were exhibited at the Royal Academy , London and are also found in the collections of the National Library and Museum of Wales.
