Glen Vowell is a First Nation Indian reserve reserve community of the Gitxsan people in the Hazelton, British Columbia Hazelton area of the Skeena Country of northwestern British Columbia , Canada . It is located on the west side of the Skeena River between Hazelton and Kispiox, British Columbia Kispiox . Its traditional name is Sik i dak , which has also been spelled Sikadoak and is reflect in the name of the reserve, Sik e dahk IR 2 . The band government of the reserve is the Glen Vowell Indian Band . The site was first identified on official maps in BC Mines Department records from 1910 as Glenvowell Salvation Army Mission . By 1922 this was adjusted to Glen Vowell Mission and as Glen Vowell Indian Village & Mission in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. The name is derived from that of Arthur Stewart Vowell , who surveyed the townsite in 1898 during the eponymous Vowell Commission , one of a series of Royal Commission s concerned with allocating Indian Reserves across British Columbia. Nathaniel P. Wilkerson born 1972 is a Canadian artist from the Gitksan First Nation in northwestern British Columbia , Canada . He is a member of the House of Amagyet, a Laxgibuu Wolf clan house. He studied the Haida people Haida art style, both drawing and carving under the tutelage of Freda Diesing from 1984 to 1985 at Terrace, British Columbia Terrace, B.C . One of these earliest pieces is permanently featured at the International Museum of Children s Art in Oslo , Norway . History The original village was located below the present day graveyard near the Skeena River. A forest fire destroyed it in 1872, and the community relocated slightly upriver. Following the building of a church, the village divided along religious lines. Gitanyow is a First Nations Indian Reserve reserve community of the Gitxsan people, located on the Kitwanga River 8 km south of Kitwancool Lake , at the confluence of Kitwancool Creek. Gitanyow was formerly named Kitwancool . The band government changed its name from the Kitwancool Indian Band to the Gitanyow Indian Band in 1991. Mount Gunanoot is a mountain in the Spatsizi Plateau of the British Columbia Interior North Central Interior of British Columbia , Canada , located just east of the headwaters of the Spatsizi River . It is named for Simon Gunanoot , a Gitxsan packer, entrepreneur and erstwhile fugitive who was hunted for several years before turning himself in for trial and being acquitted. Gunanoot is responsible for opening up most of the country in this region.
