  1. Waldviertel Pyramid

Orphan date February 2009 The Waldviertel Pyramid is a pyramid in Waldviertel , Austria . It is hidden deep in the forest between Zwettl and Gross Gerungs. It is the only known structure of its kind in Central Europe. It is of unknown age, and consists of four stacked circular layers. The diameter at the base is 14 metres and the height is 7 metres. It has only been under official monument protection since 2001. The original purpose of the pyramid is unknown. An interpretation as a Germanic place of worship or ancient tomb is unlikely because there was no prehistoric or early settlement of this area. An interpretation as medieval or more recent signalling station seems debatable. The elaborate construction seems to indicate a relatively modern design which could have been in an aristocratic situation possibly part of a baroque garden or park. Because the remains of walls have been found nearby, it is possible that the pyramid was once part of a larger complex. 1. Pyramid of the Moon

Image Piramide de la Luna 072006.jpg thumb The Pyramid of the Moon The Pyramid of the Moon is the second largest pyramid in San Juan Teotihuac n Teotihuacan , Mexico after the Pyramid of the Sun . It is located in the western part of Teotihuacan and mimics the contours of the mountain Cerro Gordo, just north of the site. Some have called it Tenan , which in Nahuatl , means mother or protective stone. The Pyramid of the Moon covers a structure older than the Pyramid of the Sun which existed prior to 200 Anno Domini AD . The Pyramid s construction between 200 and 450 AD completed the bilateral symmetry of the temple complex. A slope in front of the staircase gives access to the Avenue of the Dead, a platform atop the pyramid was used to conduct ceremonies in honor of the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan , the goddess of water, fertility, the earth, and even creation itself. This platform and the sculpture found at the pyramid s bottom are thus dedicated to The Great Goddess. Opposite the Great Goddess s altar is the Plaza of the Moon . The Plaza contains a central altar and an original construction with internal divisions, consisting of four rectangular and diagonal bodies that formed what is known as the Teotihuacan Cross. 1. Pyramid of Unas

Image Sakkara C02 29.jpg thumb right 250px Pyramid of Unas The Pyramid Complex of Unas is located in the pyramid field at Saqqara , near Cairo in Egypt . The pyramid of Unas of the Fifth dynasty of Egypt Fifth Dynasty originally known as Beautiful are the places of Unas is now ruined, and looks more like a small hill than a royal pyramid. It was investigated by John Shae Perring Perring and then Karl Richard Lepsius Lepsius , but it was Gaston Maspero who first gained entry to the chambers in 1881, where he found texts covering the walls of the burial chambers. These together with others found in nearby pyramids of successive pharaohs are now known as the Pyramid Texts . He was the first pharaoh to include this, and he created the concept of having a number of magic spells inscribed on the walls of his tomb, intended to assist with the pharaoh s journey through the Duat and into the afterlife. This concept was thought to be so successful by other pharaohs that it soon evolved into the Coffin Texts in the Middle Kingdom of Egypt Middle Kingdom , and then into the Book of the Dead from the beginning of the New Kingdom of Egypt New Kingdom until the end of the History of Ptolemaic Egypt Ptolemaic Period , when new texts began appearing. In the burial chamber itself the remains of a mummy were found, including the skull, right arm and shin, but whether these belong to Unas is not certain. Near to the main pyramid, to the north east, there are mastaba s that contain the burials of the consorts of the king.
