It consists of three colleges North Seattle Community College , Seattle Central Community College including the Wood Construction Center and Seattle Maritime Academy , South Seattle Community College including the Georgetown Campus and the Seattle Vocational Institute . Together the colleges form the second largest institution of higher education in the state, behind the University of Washington , to which many of their graduates transfer. The district s origins can be traced to 1902, with the opening of Broadway High School Washington Broadway High School on Capitol Hill, Seattle, Washington Capitol Hill . It operated as a traditional high school until the end of World War II , when it was converted to a vocational education vocational and adult education institution for the benefit of veterans who wanted to finish high school but no longer fit in at regular schools. As a result, in 1946, Broadway High School was renamed Edison Technical School. Edison started offering college level courses 21 years later, and it was reconstituted as Seattle Community College in September 1966. History The college opened in 1927 as Marshalltown Junior College under the jurisdiction of the Marshalltown Community School District until moving into the Iowa Valley Community College District in 1966.     Palau Community College is a two year college in the Republic of Palau , and the only school of higher education in the nation. It is an independent institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges , Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. It offers associate degrees and certificates in fields such as criminal justice , liberal arts , nursing , agricultural science and business school business . History Palau Community College, together with the College of the Marshall Islands and the College of Micronesia FSM , offer Micronesia Land Grant programs. There is mention of the Community College having been founded as a vocational and technical school in 1927 when Palau was under Palau History Japanese occupation . In 1980 the U.S. Congress designated the College of Micronesia as the Land Grant College of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. This agreement was later extended by the three Micronesian governments, including Palau. On March 19, 1993, the Palau Higher Education Act of 1993 established it as an independent college with its own governing board. Prior to this, the college was known as the Micronesian Occupational College. It officially became the Palau Community College on April 2, 1993.
