  1. AN/FPS-129

File GLOBUS II.jpg right thumb GLOBUS II The AN FPS 129 HAVE STARE radar , known better as the Globus II radar, is a United States Space Surveillance Network space surveillance system operated by the Norwegian Intelligence Service . Its stated tasks are to watch outer space, observe Norwegian areas of interest abroad, and to gather information that can be used within the fields of research and development. The radar may be used for national research and development through the Norwegian Military s Research Institute Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt or civilian scientific institutions. Globus II has two tasks within the stated task of watching space is to gather metric data from satellites, which is used by the US Space Command to produce and maintain the Space Catalog, which contains orbit data on all man made objects in outer space. The second task is to create high resolution radar imagery by selected objects in space. Globus II is allegedly capable of observing satellites in geosynchronous orbit at ranges of some 40,000 kilometers from Vard , which is where the radar is deployed. Its transmitter power output TPO is 200 kilowatt kW , which is relatively little when compared with other radars. Globus II is still able to see objects far away, because the combination of the antenna, which is a dish diameter of 27 meters, and a relatively high frequency gives a concentrated narrow antenna beam, enabling the energy to be used with maximum effect. It can allegedly detect objects in the 1 10 cm size range. One radar of this type was previously deployed in Vandenberg Air Force Base , California and has been moved to the Globus II station in Vard , Norway . 1. Globi

Globi is a Switzerland Swiss cartoon character often referred to as Switzerland s Mickey Mouse . He is pictured as an anthropomorphic blue parrot with a yellow beak wearing a black beret and a pair of red and black checked trousers. He was created by the Swiss cartoonist Robert Lips, as an advertising character for the Swiss department store Globus company Globus in 1932 for the company s 25th anniversary. He was originally planned to be called Kimbukku , but later renamed Globi after the local Swiss German Basel German Baseldytsch dialect word for the department store that created him. He initially appeared in a cartoon strip called Der Globi , and later appeared in a cartoon picture book form called Globi s World Voyage in 1935. By 1944, the character got so big that Globus created a separate company to deal with, and in 1948 Globi had sold over one million picture books. He was tried in other markets such as the Netherlands , Belgium and Brazil , but did not do as well. In the 1970s, he was accused of being sexist , racist , and promoting violence, which was based on the attitudes of the 1940s and 1950s, but these accusations did not hold. Today, he is one of the most popular characters in Switzerland, with sales of over 9 million books, and in October 2003, Globi was given a full length film, Globi and the Stolen Shadows . It was directed by Robi Engler in atypical Anime style. Beside the books, there is also lots of Globi merchandise , including cuddly toy s, crockery, cutlery, clocks, school equipment, card games, food. From December 2008, the Swiss town of Engelberg hosts a Globi theme park . 1. Grid Security Infrastructure

The Grid Security Infrastructure GSI , formerly called the Globus Toolkit Globus Security Infrastructure , is a specification for secret, tamper proof, delegatable communication between software in a grid computing environment. Secure, authenticatable communication is enabled using asymmetric encryption . Authentication Authentication is performed using digital signature technology see digital signatures for an explanation of how this works secure authentication allows resources to lock data to only those who should have access to it. Delegation Authentication introduces a problem often a service will have to retrieve data from a resource independent of the user in order to do this, it must be supplied with the appropriate privileges. GSI allows for the creation of delegated privileges a new key is created, marked as a delegated and signed by the user it is then possible for a service to act on behalf of the user to fetch data from the resource. Security Mechanisms Communications may be secured using a combination of methods Transport Layer Security Transport Layer Security TLS can be used to protect the communication channel from eavesdropping or man in the middle attack s. WS Security Message Level Security can be used although currently it is much slower than TLS . 1. Ventral pallidum

The Ventral Pallidum is a structure within the basal ganglia of the brain . It is an output nucleus whose fibres project to thalamic nuclei, such as the ventral anterior nucleus , the thalamus ventrolateral nucleus , and the medial dorsal nucleus . The Ventral Pallidum is a component of the limbic loop of the basal ganglia, a pathway involved in the regulation of motivation, behaviour, and emotions. It is involved in drug addiction. Anatomy The Ventral Pallidum lies within the basal ganglia , a group of subcortical nuclei. Along with the external segment of the Globus pallidus , it is separtated from other basal ganglia nuclei by the anterior commisure . Like the rest of the basal ganglia, its vascular supply is provided by the middle cerebral artery . The Limbic loop The Limbic loop is a functional pathway of the basal ganglia, in which the ventral pallidum is involved. It and the Globus pallidus Globus Pallidus internus and Substantia Nigra substantia nigra pars reticulata receives input from the temporal lobes , and the hippocampus via the ventral striatum .
