The structure is significant because it was the home of the only governor of Virginia from the Trans Alleghany region and one of Antebellum era antebellum Western, now West Virginia s most significant public figures. Thomas Dunn 1729 &ndash 15 April 1818 was Lieutenant Governor of Lower Canada from 1805 to 1807. He was born in Durham , England and came to the Quebec City town of Quebec shortly after its surrender in 1760. With his partner John Gray, he obtained the trading lease to the king s posts, which gave them a monopoly in the fur trade and fishing on the north coast of the Saint Lawrence River . Dunn also purchased the seigneurial system of New France seigneury of Mille Vaches. He was also the owner of the Cape Diamond Brewery at Quebec City. Dunn was appointed to the Executive Council of the Province of Quebec 1764 1774 and served as a member of the Legislative Council of Quebec from 1775 to 1791. He married Henriette Guichaud in 1783. Dunn died at Quebec City. He belonged to the Democratic Party United States Democratic Party . Thomas Reynolds was born in Bracken County, Kentucky Bracken County , Kentucky . He served as Clerk for the Illinois House of Representatives from 1818 until his appointment to the Illinois Supreme Court on August 31, 1822. He remained on the high court until January 19, 1825, and served as the court s chief justice during his entire tenure. He served one term in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1826 to 1828, and then moved to Missouri where he served in the Missouri House of Representatives and as a Circuit Judge. In 1840 he was elected List of Governors of Missouri Governor of Missouri , a post which he held until his death on February 9, 1844, an apparent suicide. Reynolds, with just 10 months left to complete his term in office, asked a blessing at the breakfast table, which was not his usual habit. After breakfast, he went to his office in the Executive Mansion, locked the door, and closed the shutters. Later in the day, a passer by heard a shot, apparently coming from the Executive Mansion. No references date September 2010 Thomas Lloyd 6 April 1640 10 September 1694 was a lieutenant governor of provincial Pennsylvania . He was born in Dolobran, Montgomeryshire , Wales, and subsequently educated at Ruthin School . He studied law and medicine at Jesus College, Oxford , from which he was graduated in 1661. He became a Religious Society of Friends Quaker , and in 1664 was arrested and kept under surveillance till 1672, when Charles II of England Charles II dispensed with the laws that inflicted punishment for religious offences. He became a physician and enjoyed a large practice but in 1683 he and his family removed to Pennsylvania with William Penn , who made him master of the rolls. He was chosen to represent Philadelphia County in the Pennsylvania Provincial Council provincial council in January 1684, and as its president administered the government, after Penn sailed for England in August, till 9 December 1687, when he was one of an executive commission of five that held power for ten months. He was again elected to the council to represent Bucks County, Pennsylvania Bucks County in 1689, and took his seat in spite of the opposition of the governor, John Blackwell , with whom he and others of the Quaker party had a controversy. Blackwell was removed from office by Penn, and Lloyd was again chosen president of the council and afterward commissioned lieutenant governor by Penn, holding office from 1690 to 1693. During his administration the schism headed by George Keith took place. He died in Pennsylvania, 10 September 1694. Thomas Oliver January 5, 1733 4 November 20, 1815 was the last Royal Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay . Biography Born in Antigua to a wealthy plantation owner, Thomas Oliver graduated from Harvard College in 1753. His relationship to the politically powerful Oliver family is uncertain, and it has been suggested he was a distant relation to those who settled in Dorchester, Massachusetts Dorchester in 1637. In 1760 he married Elizabeth Vassall, who was from another family of West Indies plantation owners that had settled in Province of Massachusetts Bay Massachusetts . The Vassalls were also connected by marriage to the politically powerful Phips family. Oliver, however, did not involve himself in politics, and eventually settled at 33 Elmwood Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts Cambridge , which he purchased in 1766.
