  1. Film grain

Image Film Grain.jpg right thumb 350px Photomicrograph of grain of different photographic plates Film grain or granularity is the random optical texture of processed photographic film due to the presence of small particles of a metallic silver, or dye clouds, developed from silver halide that have received enough photons. While film grain is a function of such particles or dye clouds it is not the same thing as such. It is an optical effect, the magnitude of which amount of grain depends on both the film stock and the definition at which it is observed. It can be objectionably noticeable in an over enlarged photographic film photograph. RMS granularity Granularity, or RMS granularity, is a numerical quantification of film grain noise, equal to the root mean square rms fluctuations in optical density, ref cite book title Handbook of Image Quality Characterization and Prediction author Brian ... books?id BRYa6Qpsw48C&pg PA264&dq microdensitometer film grain noise&lr &as brr 3&ei 0MW8SNmsFomkiwHBnezzBw ... date December 2007 Selwyn granularity Film grain is also sometimes quantified in a way that is relative ...&sig ACfU3U1704AE7mqHCpGWLYIHkAKK8JoHcA ref Grain effect with film and digital The images below show an example of extreme film grain gallery Image MartinIversenNorway1991.jpg Rallycross car pictured on an Agfa ... photography does not exhibit film grain, since there is no film for any grain to exist within. 1. Grain filler

A grain filler or paste wood filler is a woodworking product that is used to achieve a smooth textured wood finishing wood finish by filling pores in the wood grain . It is used particularly on open grain ed woods such as oak , mahogany and walnut where building up multiple layers of standard wood finish is ineffective or impractical. Composition Grain fillers generally consist of three basic components a Binder material binder , a bulking agent and a solvent . The binder is wood finish, and in the case of oil based fillers is typically a blend of oil and varnish . In the case of water based fillers, it is acrylic resin acrylic or polyurethane urethane . The type of binder influences the type of solvent used oil based fillers usually use mineral spirits , while water based fillers use water. Both types of filler use silica as a bulking agent as it resists shrinking and swelling in response to changes in temperature and humidity . ref name woodsmith oct08 cite journal date October, 2008 title Understanding Grain Fillers journal Woodsmith publisher August Home Publishing Co. location Des Moines, Iowa volume 30 issue 179 pages 46 47 issn 0164 4114 oclc 4713102 ref ref name amat woodworker cite web url http objectiveconsultinginc.com finishes filler.html title Filling wood grains with a paste wood filler last Simmons first Mac publisher Amateur Woodworker accessdate 2008 11 01 archiveurl http web.archive.org web 20080630224043 http objectiveconsultinginc.com finishes filler.html Bot retrieved archive archivedate 2008 06 30 ref Use Woodworkers will use a grain filler before applying other finishes to open grain ed woods to achieve a full finish , which is mirror like. ref name ... tight grain ed woods such as maple and cherry can achieve a full finish with just a few coats of finish ... otherwise be made far more obvious by the grain filler. 1. The Grain of Wheat

File God the Father with His Right Hand Raised in Blessing.jpg thumb God the Father providing a blessing, by Girolamo dai Libri . Parable of the Grain of Wheat is an allegory on resurrection given by Jesus in the New Testament The Gospel of John . Narrative From John 12 24 26 KJV blockquote Verily, verily, I say unto you, xcept a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me and where I am, there shall also my servant be if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. blockquote Interpretation Jesus drew this parable about resurrection and the kingdom of God from the everyday circumstances of life. His rural audience could easily understand the principle of resurrection produced by dead seeds sown into the earth. ref name Parable http www.rc.net wcc parabl20.htm The Parables of Jesus The Grain of Wheat ref The image of the grain of wheat dying in the earth in order to grow and bear a harvest can be seen also as a metaphor of Jesus own death and burial in the tomb and his resurrection. ref name Parable The Rev. 1. Battle for Grain

The Battle for Grain was an economic policy undertaken by the Kingdom of Italy 1861 1946 Fascists in Italy during the 1920s as a move toward autarky . Background When Benito Mussolini took over as President of Italy Prime Minister of Italy in 1922 the economy was in a bad state following World War I . Between 1922 and 1925, the financial and economic situation generally improved dramatically and this helped to increase the power of Italy, who strived to be one of the world s leading countries. But in order to continue their development Mussolini decided that Italy needed to become near enough self sufficient rather than greatly relying upon foreign imports, particularly of grain. The way that this happened was through the Battle for Grain . Details Aims The policy had a number of aims. These comprised to boost cereal production to make Italy self sufficient in grain to reduce the balance of trade deficit to lower the necessity for foreign imports of bread to show Italy as a major force Actions The policy was first put into practice in 1925 when high tariffs were placed on imported bread in a similar way to the Corn Laws in United Kingdom Britain during the 19th century. By doing this they hoped that Italians would need to produce more of their own bread instead of relying on cheap imports. Land which had not been used for years and was infertile was now utilised, however it was very expensive to farm. The government also gave grants to those farmers who were producing crops to buy machinery and fertiliser Results The policy had both positive and negative effects for Italy. On the positive side, cereal production doubled from 1922 to 1939 and by 1940 they had become more or less self sufficient at cereal production wheat imports went down by 75 in the years 1925 1935.
