  1. Fish River (New South Wales)

Fish River is both a river and a place in New South Wales Rivers There are two rivers in New South Wales called the Fish River. The Fish River rises on the plateau south east of Oberon, New South Wales , and flows generally to the north west, becoming the main headwater of the Macquarie River New South Wales Macquarie River just east of Bathurst, New South Wales . There is a reservoir on this river near Oberon which supplies water for the region. The Fish River was given its name by the earliest British explorers of the Bathurst district, because of the large number of fish they found in it, being a rare permanent stream. The other Fish River is a smaller stream between Gunning, New South Wales and Goulburn, New South Wales . Up until the 1980s, a railway station marked the site of the village of Fish River. Transport The village of Fish River was the site of a railway station, on the main Southern railway line, with refuging, coal and watering facilities. There is a rail and road bridge over the Fish River at this point. See also Railway stations in New South Wales .
