Gunningtransceiverlogic or GTL is a type of logic signaling used to drive electronics electronic backplane computer bus buses . It has a voltage swing between 0.4 volts and 1.2 volts much lower than that used in transistor transistor logic TTL and CMOS logic and symmetrical parallel resistive termination. The maximum signaling frequency is specified to be 100 MHz, although some applications use higher frequencies. GTL is defined by JEDEC standard JESD 8 3 1993 and was invented by William Gunning while working for Xerox at the Palo Alto Research Center . All Intel front side bus es use GTL. Avalanche transceivers are a class of radio transceiver s specialized to the purpose of finding people or equipment buried under snow . Other names in use are avalanche beacon Tracker, Piep, or Arva some popular brand names and a variety of regional slang terms. Normally kept in transmit mode, the device emits a low power pulsed signal. After an avalanche, it can be switched to receive mode and used to begin an immediate search for any missing transmitters using techniques similar to radio direction finding . Early avalanche beacons transmitted at 2.275 kHz 2275 Hertz Hz . In 1986 the higher frequency international standard of 457 kHz was adopted, and remains the standard today. Many companies manufacture beacons that comply with this standard. An avalanche beacon is not considered a preventative measure for possible avalanche burial, but rather it is a way to reduce the amount of time buried. Since 1998, Gunning has voiced hundreds of radio and television commercials. Clients have included Pontiac, Anbesol, Triumph Motorcycles, AOL, Hawaii Tourism and Sears Auto Centers. He began his broadcasting career as a radio disc jockey with former oldies station WBUX in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA, followed by a brief stint on AFRTS while serving with the U.S. Army.
