Hargan born 1968 was the Acting Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services , the chief operating officer of the largest civilian department in the federal government, with a budget of 640 billion and more than 67,000 employees. Working closely with Secretary Mike Leavitt , Hargan oversaw all operations, including Medicare, Medicaid, public health, medical research, the regulation of food and drugs, welfare, child and family services, disease prevention, Indian health, mental health services, and many other activities. He also served as the Regulatory Policy Officer for HHS, overseeing the development and approval of all HHS regulations and significant guidances. In addition, he led a number of initiatives at the Department, including implementing the President s Management Agenda, combating bio terrorism and public health emergency preparedness. He represented Secretary Leavitt on the boards of the American Red Cross and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. From 2005 to 2007, Hargan served as Principal Associate Deputy Secretary of HHS, and from 2003 to 2005, he served the Department as Deputy General Counsel. Prior to joining HHS, Hargan was a partner in the Chicago headquarters of the law firm of Winston & Strawn, where he specialized in corporate law, particularly mergers and acquisitions, securities, and venture capital transactions. The three hospitals serve over 200,000 resident medicine residents . It is supported by more than 1,900 employees , 900 volunteer s and 238 physicians . Member Hospitals The three community hospitals are Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Opened in 1950 with 50 beds and 13 physicians. Its busy 24 hour emergency department experiences more than 53,000 visits annually, while over 114,000 patients visit its outpatient areas each year. With over 2,300 births a year, the Family Centred Maternal Child Program is also a hub of activity. Milton District Hospital Opened in 1959 with 53 beds and 8 bassinets. The Emergency Department, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, together with the outpatient department provides care to more than 37,000 patients annually. Georgetown Hospital Opened in 1961 with 64 hospital beds. The Emergency Department, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, provides service to more than 26,000 patients annually. The Hospital provides mostly primary care to the residents of the Town of Halton Hills, which include the towns and villages of Acton, Ballinafad, Churchill Hamlet , Georgetown, Glen Williams, Limehouse, Norval Village of , Stewarttown and Terra Cotta. Future Plans and Expansion The region that HHS services is one of the fastest growing in Ontario. Multiple issues notability May 2009 cleanup January 2009 The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Advisory Committee CFSAC was formed in response to the use of funds by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the study of chronic fatigue syndrome CFS . The CFSAC was charted under the Public Health Service Act of the US and funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services HHS . The CFSAC advises the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary of Health and Human Services on issues related to its mandate, including issues related to access and care for individuals with CFS, research, public health, clinical care and education regarding CFS.
