    In Ragnarssona ttr , Helgi the Sharp , prince of Ringerike Old Norse Helgi Hvassi was the brother of Gu r r, the king of Ringerike and they lived in the 9th century. Ragnar Lodbrok s sons Sigurd Snake in the Eye , Bj rn Ironside and Hvitserk had raided in France and after Bj rn had gone home to Sweden , his brothers were attacked by emperor Arnulf of Carinthia . In the battle 100,000 Danes and Norwegians fell, including Sigurd Snake in the Eye and king Gu r r. Helgi escaped from the battle with Sigurd Snake in the Eye s banner, sword and shield. He went to Denmark and informed Sigurd s mother Aslaug of her loss. Since the next king, Harthacnut, was still too young to rule, Helgi stayed in Denmark as its regent. There, Helgi married Harthacanute s twin sister, also named Aslaug, and they had the son Sigurd Hart . Harthacanute and his descendents Harthacanute succeeded Sigurd as the king of Zealand, Scania and Halland, but he lost Viken. He was the father of Gorm the Old , the king of Denmark. Gorm succeeded his father as king and married Thyra , the daughter of the Jutland Jutish chieftain Harald klak . When Harald died, Gorm took his kingdom too and united Denmark.They had a son named Harald Bluetooth. Harald succeeded his father as king and married Gyrid of Sweden. They had a son named Sweyn Forkbeard. Sweyn succeeded his father as king and married Gunhild. They had a son named Cnut the great . Sweyn also ruled England in his lifetime and established the Danish Empire. When Sweyn died, his elder son Harald Svendsen became King Denmark as England s former king Ethelred reclaimed it. However as Harald did not marry, his brother Cnut the great became king, re established the Danish Empire and married Emma of Normandy.They had a son named Harthacnut. When Cnut died,Harthacnut became king of the Danish Empire, however, he lost England to Edward the confessor in 1042. As he did not get married, Sigurds bloodline ended. She was a sister of Harthacanute . She was a paternal half sister of Svein of Norway and Harold Harefoot . She was also a maternal half sister of Alfred Aetheling and Edward the Confessor . In 1036, Gunhilda married Henry III, Holy Roman Emperor Henry  III, King of Germany . He was the son and heir of Conrad  II, Holy Roman Emperor and Gisela of Swabia . Upon her wedding, she took the name Kunigunde. They only had one daughter, Beatrix I, Abbess of Quedlinburg Beatrix  I 1037 13 July 1061 , Abbess of Quedlinburg Abbey Quedlinburg and Gandersheim Abbey s.
